With the dramatic increase of private vehicles in China, emission and parking is a big problem in the Mount Taishan national park. To protect the land resources of the mountain and limit air pollution, the personal vehicles are no longer allowed to drive to the cable car station which located at the Zhong Tian Men. The management committee has made purchase of mini buses running from the Tian Wai Cun bus station to the cableway station. In this case, the air pollution and usage of land resources are curtailed and minimized. Besides, by taking account of the passenger number it is easier to figure out how many tourists are willing to take the cable car to the top of the Mountain.
According to one of the respondent, in order to improve the natural environment of scenic spot of Mount Taishan, the management committee is planning to construct 2 impounding reservoirs, 8 drinking water suppliers, 6 sewage treatment systems and 1 sewage treatment station at 8 regions including the peak of Mount Taishan, Dajinkou Village and Tao hua yu. Environmental treatments are also carried out on the 7 rivers in the Mount Taishan area, like Huangxi River and Chaicao River. These projects have been included in the development plan of the provincial capital city and economic circle zone of the Shandong

People empower themselves to imprison the animals,to mistreat them,to eat them, and to kill them. Who gives the rights for human to do that?Human and animals have the same rights to live in the Earth. So today, I should say at the outset that I,like millions of citizens in China will share the view that animal welfare is an issue of very high importance. And I will speak on behalf of our friends, who also live in this planet—the animals.…

Zoos vary in size and quality from drive through parks to small roadside menageries with concrete slabs and iron bars. Millions of people visit zoos annually, but most zoos operate at a loss and must find ways to cut costs or add gimmicks that will attract visitors. The Wall Street Journal reported in 2003 that “nearly half of the country’s zoos are facing cutbacks this year … [a]ttendance, meanwhile, is down about 3% nationwide.” Precious funds that should be used to provide more humane conditions for animals are often squandered on cosmetic improvements such as landscaping, refreshment stands, and gift shops in order to draw visitors. Ultimately, animals and sometimes visitors are the ones who pay the price.…

The creation of the Three Gorges Dam has lead to the endangerment and extinction of many plant and animals. The Three Gorges region is considered a biodiversity hotspot. It is home to over 6,400 plant species, 3,400 insect species, 300 fish species, and more than 500 terrestrial vertebrate species. The disruption of the river’s natural flow dynamics due to blockage will affect the migratory paths of fish. Due to the increase of ocean vessels in the river channel, physical injuries such as collisions and noise disturbances have greatly accelerated the demise of local aquatic animals. The Chinese river dolphin which is native to the Yangtze River, and the Yangtze finless porpoise have now become two of the most endangered cetaceans in the world.…

The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is an animal that is loved all over the world. It is also known as the panda bear, bamboo bear, or, in Chinese, as Daxiongmao, the “large bear cat”. This bear-like animal has black fur on its ears, around its eyes and nose, on all of its legs, and across its shoulders; the rest of its body is white. Due to the distinctive appearance of the giant panda, this animal has long been considered a symbol of China. Giant pandas are found in the mountains of central China in the rainy bamboo forests of Shanxi, Gansu, and Sichuan. These mountains are covered in heavy clouds, and torrential rains, or dense mist, occur throughout the year. However, “Giant pandas now are an extremely rare mammal in the world, with probably less than 1,000 left in the wild” (Pretes 2009). There are two main causes of the giant panda becoming endangered: natural and human. The natural reason why the number of giant pandas is not large is that the reproductive capacity of the giant panda is much worse than that of any other mammal. Moreover, human destruction of habitat and poaching are two main threats to pandas. “The price of panda fur rises, which can bring up to $200,000 in Japan” (Kennedy 2000). However, many people are attempting to rescue these lovely creatures by using a variety of approaches. They are trying to increase the chances of the giant panda’s survival through the construction of natural reserves, the improvement of the panda’s reproductive capacity, and the support of conservation organizations.…
