Mr. Johnson is a candidate for hearing aids in the first place for a number of reasons. First, an audiometric test showed that he has a mild sloping to a severe high frequency sensorineural hearing loss in both of his ears, consistent with noise- induced hearing loss. Johnson’s hearing loss and the information presented in the case study, I would recommend the in- the- ear (ITE) style of hearing aid. I believe the ITE hearing aid is a great choice for Mr. Johnson based on a few different factors. First, audiometric testing showed Mr. Johnson has a severe high frequency sensorineural hearing loss. The ITE style of hearing aid is a popular choice for clients who have a slight- to- sever hearing loss. Another reason why I believe the ITE style hearing aid would benefit Mr. Johnson is because of its cosmetic appeal. In the information presented about Mr. Johnson, he notes that he is not overly concerned about the cosmetic look of his hearing aids, but does mention, “the smaller the better as long as it works.” The ITE style of hearing aid is small and cosmetically appealing, as it just fits inside the concha of the pinna. I believe Mr. Johnson would be happy about the look of the ITE style hearing aid. Another appeal of choosing the ITE style hearing aid for Mr. Johnson is the simplicity of it structure, making it a great choice for elderly clients. The insertion and removal of the ITE hearing aid is easier to manipulate than other hearing aid models. The ITE hearing aid has a classic appeal and I believe Mr. Johnson would not only enjoy, but also benefit from the hearing aid chosen for him.
