The United States of America was founded on the right for citizens to have religious freedom. Muhammad choose to the religion of Nation of Islam in 1964. His was criticised for his choice of Islam by the American people. There were some Americans who were thrilled with the rebellious religion

Ali became for famous for his stand against the Vietnam War. He refused the induction of the United States Armed Forces on April 28, 1967. Ali cited religious beliefs as the reason for the refusal. 14 months before the refusal Ali went on record saying “I ain’t go no quarrel with the Vietcong.” Ali’s stand came at a high price. The price was five year prison sentence, the loss of his boxing title, and he was barred from fighting. The consequences of these actions also place Muhammad Ali in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement.
Muhammad Ali became aware of racial differences at a young age, because he was refused a drink of water in a 5 & 10-cents store. The highest career goal for a boy of color was to be a teacher or join the clergy. At the age of 12, Muhammed took up boxing. While in prision Ali was banned from boxing for 3.5 years. In 1970, Ali had a comeback fight. In the days before the fight things were different, people dressed up, people checked in to hotels, and there were fancy cars lined at the curb. The black Americans were excited because Muhammad Ali Beat the Man. Ali did not take the peaceful or safe path during the Civil Rights Movement, instead he preached about equality and freedom.
