Music in Our Lives
Music has always been a huge factor in my life. Not only does it serve as one of my greatest influences in the world, but it also defines who I am as a human being. It has helped mold me into the kind of person I am today, as well as the kind of person that I strive to become in the future. Music gives me the strength I need to push forward, to achieve my goals, and to believe that I have the power to change the fate of our world. Sometimes in my life, I just feel a rush of emotions sweeping through my mind, and I don’t know how to control them. That’s where music comes in. Music allows me to make sense of things. It enables me to express myself through the emotions that I am feeling. Through music, I am able to observe the world in a different light, which can be either negative or positive, depending on my mood. Whenever I start to feel discouraged or despondent, like the rest of the world has turned its back on me and is just one big disappointment, I listen to slow, mournful, and depressing music. I especially like songs that have meaningful lyrics—lyrics that make you ponder over what kind of person you want to be, what kind of role or purpose you have in this world, or what kind of an effect you have on others around you. Music like that is, in my opinion, the best kind of music to listen to. Of course, there are also instances when all I want to do is laugh and jump around the house, dancing to all my favorite catchy tunes. During those times, I listen to a totally different style of music. It could be pop, techno, electronic, punk, or even all of the above. It all depends on my mood, which constantly varies as the days progress. You may have heard people say that they cannot live without music. People say a lot of things...most of which are far from the truth. However, when I say that it is impossible for me to live without music, I truly mean it. To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I haven’t listened to music. I literally cannot go one day without

Dick Clark once said, ¨Music is the soundtrack of your life.¨ Music is one of the most powerful and influential things in my life. Without the melodies and harmonies of music, my life would feel bland and meaningless. I have a very busy schedule and sometimes it is too easy to lose meaning in my everyday tasks, but with music I am able to keep meaning in my life. I use music to get me through the activities of my everyday life. Whether it is cleaning my room, doing homework, or just relaxing, music makes everything better. I think that music can convey feelings and emotions extraordinarily well. When words cannot do the job, music can. Along with that, I think that music accompanies memories very well also. Going back to Dick Clark’s quote, I think I would be able to make a timeline of my life just using song titles, albums, and…

Listening to something fast paced can build up excitement, while something slower and with soulful lyrics can give more of a melancholy feeling. Music is also personal. Everyone has that one song that they really resonate with.…

Music is a mass market in the United States, resulting in a strong influence throughout the nation’s culture. Youth culture in particular has been impacted since the explosion of rock n roll in the 1950’s. As the market continues to expand with each generation, an increasingly wider demographic felt the impact of music on daily life. The introduction of new technology contributed as well with music becoming easier to obtain and distribute. As needs change in America so does the music with it. During the Civil Rights Movement, the music of the African American people became more and more popular, Gospel and R&B would tell tales of trouble in the African American communities. They would sing of their unfair treatments, of being poor, and of their dreams of change and freedom from hate. The 1950’s brought around rock and roll and challenged the acts of war and limitations. The music in the 1960’s and ‘70’s had a strong political sound that protested the wars and government of that time. This was especially true in the time of the Vietnam War. Songs rang of sounds of peace and love and the end of a war no one really thought we needed to be involved in.…

Music influences people in different ways, for me it influenced my life by allowing me to realize that I can express myself through other people’s words. For instance, when I started seventh grade I heard a song called “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw. At first, when I heard this song I started to cry because I automatically heard my Dad’s voice apologizing for what happened. This song has influenced my life because it was always there for me when I needed a father’s reassurance. Music has always been there for me when no one was or when I needed advice to keep going. Music allows people to put their experiences in a song that makes sense to them. Music comes in different genres but they do the same thing, allow people to express themselves when it is hard for them to do that on their…

Music is part of our lives whether we realize it or not, whether we actively participate in it or not, whether we appreciate its power or not. This is, in fact, the real power of music ? that it can affect us whether we are aware of it or not. We need only think of the music heard on the soundtrack of most movies. We may be aware of the action and the dialogue, the scenery, costumes and special effects, yet music is supporting it all and guiding the emotional context. In the best films, music is an active team player, but in the worst of films, sometimes the music is the only thing holding the story together. So important is music to film that studio executives sometimes watch “rough cuts” with a temporary music track, even before the actual score is written, to get a feel for how a particular scene will play over it.…
