Senior year, the most dreaded year for any high school student, with all the standardized tests coming up, AP classes, college applications and the question “What do I want to become?” It is hard and stressful to decide a career at the age of 17 or 18. Yet that is the way we are trained. We have to find our passion in 12 years of education. After my 12 years of education I have made a decision to become a Computer Engineer. It feels great to hear that, but is that what I want to become? I was born in Bangalore, India, a wonderful place where I studied till 10th grade. It is the place where I have all my beautiful childhood memories. It is a city in southern India in a state called Karnataka. Bangalore is known as the technology hub of Asia along with its pleasant weather. The schooling system, compared to American schooling system, is almost the same. In grades 1 through 10 we are in high schools and after 10th grade we go into pre- university, grades 11 and 12. After pre- university we take the a few nationwide standardized tests to decide which university we want to join. There aren’t many financial aids or loans compared to America. The school that I attended and the environment I was in was amazing. My parents are from two different states in India; hence I learnt two different languages from them: Kannada and Telugu, and I am very familiar with Sanskrit and Hindi. I am also glad saying that I went to an English medium school where I learnt English as my first language. There are many misconceptions regarding English being taught in schools, but that is not true. There are hundreds of schools only in my city that require English as first language and it is also mandatory to study English until 12th grade.
