My Experience Of Being Supervised
My experience of being supervised was one that I considered to be a negative experience. In this experience, my boss at an ice cream shop was concerned that someone was stealing money on that shift. There were around three of us working at the time and our boss was understandably angry that some money had gone missing during that shift. I believe that what made this experience negative was that my boss got hysterical and very aggressive with me and the rest of the employees instead of calmly talking to each of us separately and trying to understand what had happened. It was a difficult work environment as almost every time that someone worked they would be accused of stealing, regardless of whether they had been on shift when it happened or not. I believe that all of these factors contributed to a negative supervisee experience as it was an environment that made it difficult to be productive and feel like I was gaining valuable experience. …show more content…
This ice cream shop employed both college students and high school students as it was a seasonal job. I had had apprehensions about working there based on my interview and meeting my coworkers during that time who warned me that our boss accused the employees of theft on a regular basis. This contributed to a negative perception of the experience on my part before I even started working. This was not helped by the immaturity of my high school coworkers who, knowing that our boss was hard of hearing, would speak about her quietly behind her back. During my several months there I was asked to do tasks that seemed unprofessional such as drive my boss home because she did not want to drive. This may have impacted my negative views on my experiences there, but I still view the overall supervisory experience as

When I started my first job in an eye clinic, I was hired to work the front desk of the main office along with three other ladies. I was the youngest at 22 , one gal was about 5 years older than myself, and the other two were in their early 60's. One of the older ladies had worked there a significant amount of time while the other two and myself were hired at the same time. There was an initial friction between one of the older ladies and my younger co-worker and myself. We thought she was bossy and tried to micro-manage us even though she was not in a supervisory position. She also would try and tell us how the older patients liked to be spoken to. After a while, management stepped in to try and mediate the conflict. As it turned out, my bossy co-worker was simply taught her work ethic and interpersonal skills in a different era. She felt more senior than my co-worker and I because she was older, with more life experience. She also thought that being from an older generation herself, that she knew how to communicate better with our patients. We were all trying to help our patients, do our jobs well, and effectively communicate, but our different backgrounds and significant difference in age, were creating an interpersonal conflict.…

The managers were good people but when it came to work they seemed to not really care. The shift manager would sit in his office all day eating and watching ESPN on his phone. Our hiring manager tried to be a sales associate, instead of doing the work she was always complaining about. No one would do the inventory so when it did get done everything was off. I would tell the shift manager the days and times I would need off, and for some reason I’d be scheduled for times I requested off weeks prior. When I applied I signed up for “Sales associate” but ended up working cash register. After I quit, I found out that almost everyone got fired and Petsmart is now under new management.…

Given Johns history I believe the most appropriate supervision program for him would be house arrest. This type of supervision will allow John to get on with his life, but also ensure he is being a productive member of society. Since John has somewhat of a criminal record and doesn’t always make the best decisions, house arrest can give him the time to reevaluate his life decisions under the supervision of a someone who can help guide him. If John was given house arrest after being released, he will be expected to obtain a job or enroll in school to further his education. He will also have to check in with a parole/probation officer periodically to ensure he is complying with the terms of his release. If John is not complying with his house…

The discrimination model of supervision developed by Bernard & Goodyear, (1998) has three primary focus areas in training novice counselors these include use of intervention, what the supervisee is doing in the session that is observable, conceptualization or how the session work is being conducted and the level of understanding the supervisee has regarding client themes and application of specific counseling session interventions, and personalization, the supervisors own approach or method. This model embeds three essential supervisory roles, teacher, counselor and consultant in providing effective supervision. The teacher's primary role is to provide the supervisee with instruction in learning techniques and direction to ensure supervisee development in clinical work while also recognizing that client wellbeing is paramount in sessions. The counselor role is to assist the supervisee in identifying personal needs, developing self awareness and addressing performance anxiety which potentially interferes with good practice, and as a consultant who engages the supervisee in a collegial manner in identifying and considering different approaches in treatment planning.…

    1. While working at petsmart this past summer I had a direct supervisor in petcare as well as the manager of the store to which I reported to. The way that shifts worked out was there was only one petcare assosiate on at a time and my supervisor would have her hours spread out over the week so sometimes you may only see her once or by chance might work with her throughout the week. I was scheduled often early morning which tended to be the opposite time she would by in so she would leave notes on my task list for the day if she needed to relay informaton to me.
