The roles are Teacher, Counselor, and Consultant (Bernard & Goodyear, 2009). Janet the supervisor can utilize the teacher role by providing Michael with theories, techniques that will help him work through processing the role of a counselor. Janet can also help Michael by using the counselor role to help him focus on his insecurities and what is causing him to feel unsure of his abilities to function in the profession. It appears Michael is open feedback and utilize it to help him fulfill his duties in counseling. However, Michael appears to be struggling through confidence, this would be a great opportunity for Janet to utilize the role of a consultant.
