My Experience Of Writing In High School
My academic experience of writing has mainly consisted of the core writing classes that were required for high school. In high school, I wrote persuasive essays, poems, research papers and expository papers. Writing in school was a difficult task for me to do as writing a paper over a topic that does not intrigue me makes brainstorming and getting started difficult. Throughout high school writing papers became easier as I worked on my weaknesses. The type of writing I found the most enjoyable was writing deep thoughts or ideas that made me ponder. Then making those thoughts more presentable and well articulated over the next few days. My weakness when I write is correct grammar, deciding what to write, and brainstorming in a way that keeps

Personally, I’ve always felt I was a decent writer in all aspects regarding research and personal narratives. Considering those are subjects that interest me and that I love to read about. I struggle the most when it comes to making my writing hold a deeper or hidden message when the topics I am told to write about don’t interest me. Having to do rhetorical analysis with old literature and having to explain the main idea was my number one struggle in AP language and composition senior year. But other than that I felt, throughout high school, I enjoyed writing and taking a majority of the writing classes my school had to offer, not only because it was required but because it was something that teachers and myself felt I did acceptable work.…

Throughout my time is College Composition I, I learned and developed numerous skills that I will carry with me to college and beyond. While writing the five assigned essays, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. I believe a strength of mine was my ability to add in personal stories into my essays. For example, in my definition essay, I included my fear of disappointment and how I work to overcome this particular fear. On the other hand, one weakness that I struggled with was style. While writing my essays, I would sometimes use wordy and unclear sentences structures. Often times I would focus solely on improving my diction while writing my papers.…

My high school my writing process was very alike to the process my classmates would practice. I would get my ideas from my life experience or classmates. A tool that really help me organized my thoughts was the web organizer with all the ideas I would brainstorm. I would let out my thoughts and would try to organize them the best way possible following the outline that I was going to utilize. I would ask my teachers and sisters, who have much more experience to proofread my rough draft. A problem I saw in my writing was my usage of words and my punctuation. As following the writing process it extended the essay a week more but it was well done. Problems that I would approach with, was organizing my writing in a form to make it clear. My strengths were the ideas and the details I would use in my writing.…

Overall, I am not a completely horrible writer. I’m good at getting my point across, and just flat out writing once I get going. However, there is definitely things that I can improve on, as there almost always is in life. My grammar skills and sentence wordiness can greatly be improved, this will come with writing more and looking over my work. I didn’t really write papers until this class, so these issues will also get better as I become a more experienced…

I feel like I am able to organize the idea and thought together and to put them on paper for my writing assignments. The weakness that I have with the writing process is Grammar and Proofreading. These have always been something I need to work on when I am writing any kind of paper. Another weakness that I have is being able to expand on what I am writing about. I am able to write about the facts but not able to elaborate on the ideas with my words. When writing about something and having to come up with 500 or more words is hard for me to do. Even coming up with 250 works for me is a struggle and is something else I need to work on in my future writings. With the paper being on gun control I realized I am more of a pro for it than con. So…

Thinking of creative ways on how to develop my paper is a strong suit I benefit while taking on a writing assignment. When given a topic to write about, I write down what comes into my head. I do not worry about the word count if the sentences make sense on paper or even punctuation. I write to avoid forget any important points I might have thought of. This method of writing is where my weaknesses show. Sometimes what I wrote makes sense in my head, but not on paper. Other challenges I face with writing assignments are time management and punctuation.…

The key topic I have learned that plays a huge role in the writing process is confidence. When writers are confident about their piece and they really love the way it has turned out, then it shows through the entire paper. I always tell my dance students that if they show the audience how much they love dancing, then more people will want to watch them. And I think the same goes for…

A lack of patience is the main reason I have trouble with writing. Before college, I was unwilling to put a significant amount of time into truly understanding a topic, forming a credible standpoint, and editing the paper. Nonetheless, it was important for me to complete the writing assignments to have a grasp of writing skills. Although writing has played a significant role in my education up to this point, it will not necessarily be an important part in my career choice of nursing.…

Writing in journals for class or writing stories for entertainment proved to be great fun. The writing level of elementary and middle school was easy to learn and work with. Arriving in high school, I felt confident in my writing skills. High school level writing proved to be more challenging. After English I, I felt unprepared for the rest of my high school writing experience. I grew to become uninterested in writing for the next two years. I procrastinated finishing any writing assignment I was given. Though I received decent grades on my assignments, I could have received better grades had I not procrastinated writing my assignments. My attitude toward writing has changed from disinterested to excited with my Composition I and II classes. I have learned much in the first semester of this course and I have grown to enjoy writing again because of this…

Writing in College states that an effective introduction, conclusion, and title, combined with appropriate formatting and proofreading heavily impacts the reader’s memory. Williams and McEnerney express that while being too aggressive is not ideal, “The most important role of your introduction is to give a brief statement about the question or problem that you are answering or solving…The intention is to make your reader feel that you have answered a question that is worth asking, that you have seen something that helps make sense out of a reading.” Reviewing the introduction’s content and rewriting it as the conclusion is common practice but by placing a deep and meaningful question or quote at the ending makes the audience think about its…

For as long as I can remember I have always dreaded writing papers. Just knowing that I had a paper due would give me anxiety. I never really understood how to format an essay or research paper.
