working is actually enjoyable.
I don't complain when I wake up in the morning to go to work, but instead I look forward to going to work. With the process of detailing cars at my job, it tends to satisfy me and lets the time fly by. When my senior year was over and college was coming up I had to think fast of what I wanted to do with my life and what classes I wanted to take. With talking to my sister-in-law who had a good knowledge of many jobs, she mentioned her good friend was a dental hygienist. I did some research on the career and found out that it consists of teeth cleaning, and preventing from any mouth and gum disease from spreading and even preventing them from occurring. Since the job is a cleaning job and that is what I like doing with my life, it would be the perfect occupation for me. Then I saw the salary and was surprised, It was the perfect career for me. It was something that I actually liked doing and the pay was excellent for the little amount of school that was needed. I knew the job would need commitment which I
knew I had to achieve my goals.
Dental hygienists make a great amount of money. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in The Occupational Outlook Handbook, “The median annual wage for dental hygienists was $72,330 in 2015. This amount is just the median wage, which means once you are more experienced you can make a lot more. With making this wage it would be more than plenty for me because I would be able to live life more than comfortably and be able to get through life with a breeze. But not here in Chicago with these crazy property taxes and expenses, unlike Arizona where I plan on moving in the future after college. Not only is life cheaper and better in Arizona, being a dental hygienist over in Arizona is better because their median pay is $90,805 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in The Occupational Outlook Handbook. That's only the median pay too, experienced dental hygienists can make over 100 thousand dollars a year. With earning that amount of money, life can be very nice and the best part is it would be something that I would enjoy doing. Better pay in a cheaper place such as in Arizona that has lower taxes and cheaper properties, you can get a lot of bang for your buck living over there. Most of the western states have around the same median pay and it's a slightly better occupation out on the west coast since their income of a dental hygienist is higher. To some people when they choose their careers it lies between having a passionate job or a good paying job. There for you can have a bad job with a good pay or a good job with not the best pay. Most people would rather have a job they like with not the best pay ever. They would rather do something that they enjoy doing. Since I am going to be working for a long time it's important to pick a career that I will enjoy. When people don't like the job they get and have to stick to it with the rest of their life, it plays a role on many things. It can affect health if the job is stressful or always puts you in a bad mood. It can even affect family and relationships with others. If the wrong job is chosen many effects can occur and you won't even know they happened When it comes to me, why not both. Doing something I like and having a very good salary. Starting each day with a nice white coat to the dentist must be nice, a clean job that's indoors, which is cooled or heated during the time of the year and having that nice of a salary must be a dream. The nice indoor job that is clean would make me glad because I wouldn't have to worry about organization and dirtiness since most dentists have to be a very clean place for the customers and employees. Most importantly have the satisfaction of making people happy. James states "It's the fact that you can actually make a difference in people's lives". The fact you can make a difference and make someone happy to smile again can be a lot and be really rewarding towards yourself. The life of not complaining that you have work the next day and actually wanting to go to work is a must. With my passion of cleaning, I think this job will be well suited for me since I would make sure the cleaning process of the teeth would be perfect. According to Explore Health Careers, Dentist and dental hygienist, “have great flexibility in determining the number of hours per week they choose to work”. When it comes to working on the job, the hours of work depend on you, the more you want to work you are happy to do what you like. Most dental hygienists work in multiple dentist offices and come in on the days that they want to work on. Stated by Geshelin (12) “Not all dentist work at a dental office some do things such as teaching, selling dental products, or working in product research and testing”. Have this option in my life would be a great advantage because the point of life is to enjoy it not just going to work to pay bills until you die. Having the option of creating your own schedule is a huge plus for this job because you can work whenever you like. You set up the appointments and take control of your work life. Having the extra time to spend with your family in the future and go on vacations would be ideal for anyone's lifestyle. You can live your life and pick your own schedule and make yourself be in control. It is nice to have great flexibility in determining the number of hours per week you choose to work in your life, so why live through it working hard and not having vacations or days off when you want unlike you would be able to if you were a dental hygienist. With this opportunity, relaxation can be achieved on any day of the week you would like. But moreover the profession of a dental hygienist does not just consist of cleaning teeth it is far more important. This profession would give me the opportunity to feel accomplished in that there is much appreciation involved. Since dental hygienists spend most of the day sitting, posture is super important according to EBSCOhost “Correct body positions will add years to your career”. Dental Hygienists typically see a patient twice a year, which, gives them an upper hand in acting as “first responders” in noticing problems relating to teeth and many major diseases that evolve in the mouth. Response time for locating a health related risk would be much lower and the patient can work on establishing a treatment plan with the assistance of their dentist thus preventing major health, dental and gum complications that otherwise can be overseen. At the end of the day everyone wants to look good and according to Darren, "I think people are more aware of their teeth and how important it is to take care of them." Teeth are an important thing to your body and make who you are. Dental Hygienist are a pretty big deal and I would be proud to be one.
