I’ve wanted to attend a prestigious college since my sophomore year of high school. Since the number of excellent universities in the U.S. is overwhelming, my first step in finding a school was to narrow down my field of study. Through my work in I.T. at Catholic Central, I found a deep passion for all aspects of computers, …show more content…
especially computer engineering. I looked through reviews, browsed websites, and perused the curriculums of many colleges, and drew up a list of my favorites.
The next step was finding colleges that fit my personal criteria - Marquette was second on my list. However, after visiting Marquette for a tour based on a current student’s advice, its atmosphere, tour guides, and general sense of community won me over. After I spoke with current engineering students, I found that what was originally my second pick very quickly became my top choice.
Joseph Schmitt was my main Marquette contact.
A current engineering student, and long time friend, I knew he was a reliable source of information. After leaving Catholic Central for a summer to study at Marquette, he came back to work with some spectacular stories and a lot of experiences to share. Hearing how amazing Marquette was from an actual student, and doing some accompanying research, reaffirmed in me that Marquette was where I wanted to be.
Despite my feelings of accomplishment for finishing my search, there was still one thing left to do: apply. This was the moment of truth. Did I want to attend this school or not? I made a mental checklist of things I’d learned; it has fantastic people, a great engineering curriculum, and sports and clubs that fit my tastes. Beyond all of that, it was Marquette University, a rigorous faith-based community that seemed to beckon to me whenever possible. The choice was clear. I finally knew where I wanted to go, and it was Marquette
University.
