My Love For Jeannette University: Personal Narrative
My love for Marquette University started with the campus. Being nestled in the heart of Milwaukee, Marquette feels like a close-knit community, but has an open, urban vibe. During my first campus trip I toured all of the main buildings, and was particularly impressed by the new engineering building. The tour guides encouraged questions from prospective students. They didn’t give us canned responses, or answer from a script; instead they gave thoughtful and concise answers that showed what Marquette is all about. Marquette’s prestigious engineering department, academic excellence, and famed namesake all led me to want to attend more than any other school.
I’ve wanted to attend a prestigious college since my sophomore year of high school. Since the number of excellent universities in the U.S. is overwhelming, my first step in finding a school was to narrow down my field of study. Through my work in I.T. at Catholic Central, I found a deep passion for all aspects of computers,

A current engineering student, and long time friend, I knew he was a reliable source of information. After leaving Catholic Central for a summer to study at Marquette, he came back to work with some spectacular stories and a lot of experiences to share. Hearing how amazing Marquette was from an actual student, and doing some accompanying research, reaffirmed in me that Marquette was where I wanted to be.
Despite my feelings of accomplishment for finishing my search, there was still one thing left to do: apply. This was the moment of truth. Did I want to attend this school or not? I made a mental checklist of things I’d learned; it has fantastic people, a great engineering curriculum, and sports and clubs that fit my tastes. Beyond all of that, it was Marquette University, a rigorous faith-based community that seemed to beckon to me whenever possible. The choice was clear. I finally knew where I wanted to go, and it was Marquette

My love affair with Mount Holyoke began quite innocuously, as many loves do. Exactly two years ago I received some mailings from the college—I originally began liking the school because of my intended major. However, in the last two years, I have found all the more reasons to deepen my adoration of Mount Holyoke College. The liberty of a liberal arts education will not only allow me to focus on my intended major but will also allow me to broaden my horizons to discover new areas of interest. My academic career at Mount Holyoke will be a drastic change from my high school career. Studying at Mount Holyoke College would be similar to discovering new land. I would arrive with purpose: the study of language will be my Plymouth Rock, my joy, but…

“Teely, because I’m so interested in seeing you apply with your Eagle Vision Application…” Central University. “An exclusive invitation from UNCP..” UNC Pembroke. “Mai-Teelee, you’ll want to read this.” Western Carolina. All these colleges and universities showed interest in me by reaching out through emails and letters in the mail but, it wasn’t them whom I was interested in. It was you, UNC Chapel Hill. The first time I heard about you was back in my sophomore year, in AP Environmental Science by a group of classmates who had visited the campus. At that time, I didn’t care that much for colleges. I was still worried about joining clubs and trying to make more friends and just, have fun. Like any other teenager. However, I became intrigued. Just what was it that made this school so well known and liked? Once I decided that I would aim for the medical field, my friends suggested, of course, Chapel Hill. You. They said “It’s a great medical school and you’ll get in easily because you’re Asian.” And being naive, I believed them. I didn’t quite realize just how high your expectations were. But it wouldn’t be too difficult I assumed…

It was that night I learned about the college. As my father and I always parked at the Holy Cross campus to go to the football games I really liked the feel of everything and could one day picture myself on these grounds. One thing that I always liked about this college was that, it was not too big or too small it was just right and fit me well. Every time my dad and I needed directions or short cuts to the games, many of the times it was the Holy Cross students and they were very polite and helpful. Another thing that I had always planned to do when I go to college was do my best to make it to a catholic college because my faith is what shapes me and is what makes me the hardworker and persistent person I am. If accepted into Holy Cross not only would it be an honor but I would take great pride and do everything I can to…

There comes a time in students’ lives where they have to make one of the biggest decisions of their lives. This may be to follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest African American figures at an HBCU, or to obtain a general education from one of the wide range predominantly white universities. Although attending college is the primary goal for most students, choosing the right institution to attend can be the hardest decision to make. The choice of finding the best university to accommodate their needs is definitely a tough decision. However, by analyzing the polarizing differences in the institutions, students can clearly understand the dissimilarities of attending an HBCU rather than a PWI.…

Nelson Mandela once said: “An education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote profoundly reflected the attitude displayed by myself in my college selection search. I eventually narrowed my selection down to Indiana University Bloomington and Wabash College as a result of these two stellar college’s history of high scholastic achievement. While these two academic institutions share some characteristics in common, their differences in composition, academic programs, price, and credit transfer services were enough for me to chose one over the other.…

When I first began to think about college, I was overwhelmed to say the least. More accurately, I was terrified. I had no obvious plan for the future and I didn’t know how I was going to decide where to go or what to do. I knew what I liked to do but I had no idea how interests translated into a major. The event that I choose to follow summer fest was a simple and casual visit to the wellness and recreational center, fancy way of saying the gym. Upon my first ever visit to Florida International University I still remember at our freshmen orientation entering the gym and thinking to myself this seems like a place that I will be visiting often during my four year tenure at school. And boy was I right, the facility was clean and professional looking very much like a professional gym would appear, the staff where all kind and ready to assist you if help was ever necessary, something that I truly valued. I was extremely exited to take a spinning class at the FIU gym, I had only ever heard positive reviews and I was looking forward to the experience as well. Personally I am obsessed with fitness so any class, or activity is something that I love to experience which is what drove me to experience the class myself, and did, I love it. When I got out of that class I was sweating so much, I felt like I had gone on a run around the world and it so amazing, the instructor knew exactly what she was doing and had no problem helping you out if you needed it, the music was fun and exiting extremely up tempo. Overall I can only rave about the experience, it was positive and motivational. It has truly inspired me to no matter how stressed I may be I can always go down to the gym and relieve my stress while gaining a benefit as well.…

In 150 words, why Tech? Challenged accepted. Perhaps it’s the world renowned biomedical engineering major, “real word” application co-op program, entertaining Greek life, or the beautiful campus with a bustling city vibe; all great attributes that Georgia Tech maintains, but the most meaningful reason I’m applying to Tech is the ambitious, broad-mined, and intuitive students and staff found there. I’ve always searched for attributes among others that could grow in myself. Purposely surrounding myself with those who posses these traits in hopes that I could learn, replicate similar features in my choices and actions, and overall becoming a better person. Regardless of where I go, “Tech” schools will teach engineering, but what remains exclusive…
