I have read excerpts from two texts. An informational text titled ‘The Sea Around Us’ by Rachel Carson, and a literature text titled ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’, by Jules Verne. In both excerpts there are many descriptions of the ocean. Many people debate whether details are described more vividly in informational text, or in literature. I feel the ocean was described more vividly in the excerpt from the literature text ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’.…
People have had someone to influence them in their lifetime at some time or another, but my biggest influence in my life is my mom. I can’t but admire my mom’s strength and her wisdom. I am a strong believer in the saying “like father", “like son" goes with both genders, however, I do think that this is more a result of following example rather than a result genetics. It is common knowledge that not everyone is perfect, even heroes, and in realizing this I know. Although I wish to be like my mom in most ways I do not at all. This realization may be one of the most important things I have learned, my mom has taught me to be firm in my decisions in life, not solely on the examples and actions of others but simply on what I gather and learn from the examples and actions of others. In other words, she has taught me not to follow blindly but to make my own decisions based on what I think is important. The things I have learned and continue to learn from my mom are continuous; she has taught me all of the founding principles of my life and for that I am very thankful. My mom has an enormous influence on me because she always encourages me to do my best, taught me to be a survivor and finally mom influences me by is always helping needy.…

The old view (historians in the 1950's) was that NAZI Germany was a "totalitarian" state. Hitler was the all-powerful dictator. Orders flowed downwards from Hitler. The system of government was like an efficient, well-oiled machine.…
One of the heroic traits I see in my mom is that she is always there for me no matter what. She is the one who comes to my mind when days are filled with dread and then, my days become bright once again. If I am going through a "rough patch" in life she is there, standing by my side ready to do whatever she can to make that patch of my life great once more, if not better than it was before. When I fall she is there, right next to me, ready to help me up any time that I need.…
My mother Jeanne has always raised me on a tight leash and taught me to have morals, ethics, self-respect, and class about myself. She raised me and my older brother by herself for a long time, and we never really got to have the “Wonderful” mother/daughter relationship every little girl wants with her mother, but because of our relationship growing up it has made us so much closer now that I am an adult and have my own child. My mother is a big reason why I am the person I am today, I was always told I’m just like her and I wouldn’t have chosen to have it any other way.…
My mom cares for my sister and me by cooking and serving dinner, enforcing house rules, and doing the bulk of laundry. On a usual day Mom would go to either Langenstein’s or Costco to buy dinner for the night, or she would have food in the fridge that she could prepare for us. I am grateful that she cooks meals for us instead of frozen meals and fast food. Also my mom enforces the house rules to look out for our well being like a curfew. As a night person I find the curfew to be challenging at times, but I know she just wants me to have ample rest. While my mom and sister take on most of the burden for indoor chores, I cut the grass and trim the hedges in our yard. My mom usually put the clothes in the washer and drier, but she forces us to do the folding.…
My mom works to keep a roof over my family’s head, and still finds time to go to my sports games. My mom takes me to archery practice almost every day and sometimes comes early to watch. Secondly, she attends my volleyball games. My mom will also sometimes carpool for volleyball. My mom may not go to all of the games, but she supports us.…
My mother influences me always to be a good student, and being able to achieve my goals. I told her that I want to become a nurse, and I am not good at math. She said that math needs more practice and one day you will be able to achieve my goal. She always have a growth mindset that I and my siblings will be what we want to be in the future. My mother tells us that knowledge is power. She didn’t get the opportunity to go to school when she was a child. She was the oldest and had to work hard in order to provide good life for her family. My mother always works for us in order to…
She will not back down from a challenge. Whether it's meeting the quota on closed complaints for her company, or trying to revive a dying vegetable garden in the yard, she never gives up. Her humor and uplifting spirit brings a smile to anyone who is around her. The ball of positive energy that I call mom is the main person in my life that makes me, me. From charging the batteries to my pink Barbie Jeep, to closing her eyes and strangling the passenger door of the Suburban, my mom has been there every step of the way through my life. With each milestone she was there, teaching me the way she was taught, therefore sprinkling a little of her in…
Viktor Frankl’s book, “Mans Search for Meaning,” has an abundance of despair, loss, and chances to become bitter, however, Frankl turns those potential feelings around and makes them into an experience, one he can learn from. It is similar to the saying “learn from your mistakes.” Frankl experiences the worst of the worst, and he learns something magnificent. This is not a story about the horrible things that happened to him in the Nazi camp, but one about his search for meaning.…
My mother has a huge impact on my life. She has faced so many challenges in her life, and she’s amazing for it. My mother, had to stop going to college because she got pregnant with my sister. How many to be mothers would drop out of college just to take care of their new born baby? Not many. Some might have their mothers watch their child, but my mother, Patty, she wanted to spend time with us, rather than go to school. She worked a lot while I was growing up. My older sister would take care of me and my brother.…

My mother has been the person to influence me the most in my life. She taught me a variety of life lessons that will help me in my future. I have grown as a person, a son, and as a friend because of her. She is the reason why I am who I am today. I am blessed with the influences of my mother. Without her who knows what kind of person I would be.…
