As stated in Professional Nursing: Concepts & challenges, “ Patient’s spiritual strength is recognized, supported, and encouraged for it contribution to health. In the process of transpersonal relationships, nurses develop and encourage openness to understanding of self and others” (Black, 2017, p.**** ). Watson’s belief on the importance of understanding and respecting patient’s spirituality is similar to mine. We both agree that respecting and understanding patients spiritual needs can help them cope with any health issues. This forms a bond of trust between the patient and or family members with the nurse. Trust is important because it makes it easier for the patient and nurse to approach any concerns in a caring manner. To continue, Lachman (2012) stated that, “Watson’s caring model requires the nurse to look at the uniqueness of the individual and go to all extents possible to preserve the patient’s dignity” (p.112). Watson caring model consist of making sure nurses get to know their patients in all aspects, in a respectful matter, which leads once again to my philosophy of nursing. Nursing has different types of meaning, and as a result what nursing means to me, might not be the same as to someone else. A person can be anyone in general, no matter of whom they are in the world. The environment influences a person and what type of environment he or she comes from can help ensure they are receiving the appropriate care. Daily life choices and the environment are constantly affecting the health of an individual. Lastly, respecting others cultural and spiritual beliefs is important because it can also be factors that can affect a person’s health. Jean Watson philosophy of nursing is so important in nursing, that caring will most likely beaded to the other concepts of nursing (Black, 2017).
