At the time of my first shadowing experience I had absolutely no idea what Dr. Romaguera was talking about, but my time with him sparked a curiosity in me to learn more. My time with Dr. Romaguera and Dr. Taylor gave me an insight into what being an MD is actually like. Something that Dr. Romaguera shared with me has stuck with me. He told me that people view doctors as healers, almost like miracles workers, but he said I should never feel the pressure of having to heal someone because the healing is up to God not us. He told me that this small piece of wisdom could help me when I am frustrated in my career. One of the things that Dr. Taylor imparted on me was about being comfortable and confident while making decisions that are not black and white. He told me medicine is hardly ever black and white, but usually grey area decisions. Both doctors allowed me to get slightly hands on and included me in their exams by asking me questions and taking the time to explain everything they were doing. I enjoyed being able to witness to these two incredible doctors as they served their patients.
