I chose to apply to WVU SOM because of the university’s large social role and association with the state. I believe that I can contribute to WVU SOM’s communal ties to help foster change and improve healthcare on both a community scale and a state scale. I believe WVU will offer the opportunities to serve rural areas that lack access to health care, an issue I hope to also improve in my local community. I am interested in learning about the university’s and state’s plan to address underserved populations. Moreover, I believe WVU SOM’s program will provide me the tools to teach patients about their health. I believe transferring knowledge to the community will be the first step in encouraging and changing to healthy lifestyles.…
My application to the Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program follows the time-period I previously believed would be the best of my adult life: after I was confirmed a place in a U.S. medical degree program. While I was and continue to be extremely pleased with achieving the goal which inspired incredible hard work throughout the last five exhausting years, I would be diminishing myself to claim that this achievement was enough. Long before beginning my applications to medical school, I had been introduced to the benefits of Navy medicine – mainly through its contributions to pre-hospital emergency medical care. I was particularity impressed with the significant influence Navy research had on medical techniques that were so standard to…
I wish to attend Meharry Medical College because my greatest desire is to provide first class healthcare in underserved and impoverished communities. As a first generation Nigerian-American I have witnessed firsthand, the tragedy of inadequate health care in poverty-stricken communities coupled with a shortage of competent primary care physicians. There are many people suffering, with no hope due to debilitating diseases. I am confident that Meharry will provide me with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to meet these people at their point of need. I want to attend Meharry Medical College because this institution breeds unique physicians who contribute greatly to society and I want to be one of them.…
The University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) is an academic based health care organization affiliated with the University of Washington (University). The University has nationally ranked research programs in traditional health sciences as well as “population health.” The translation of research initiatives of the University to practicing medicine is the corner stone of the UWMC’s strategic plan as indicated in the opening comments of the strategic plan. In addition to the comments noted above, the strategic plan also states as one of the seven objectives to “enhance the integration of UW Medicine’s research programs to promote rapid and effective translation of research from laboratory to clinical settings.” The UWMC’s strategic plan has the enhancement of the integration of research, teaching and patient care as one of the five priority areas. I am presently a first-year student at Brown Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island. I graduated from Amherst College in 2005 with a bachelor of arts degree cum laude in Biochemistry. My career goal at this point is to be a primary care physician in a community-based hospital similar to the one where I volunteered during my college years. I hope to serve a multicultural patient population and specifically provide preventive care to adolescents and women. Since enrolling at Brown, I have participated in the Adolescent Health Education Project in which groups of medical students visit local high schools and community centers once a week to discuss health issues with…

I have always been fascinated with how the human body functions. Growing up in a third world country, where curable diseases were highly prevalent due to lack of trained medical professionals. I always knew I wanted to seek a career in the medical field. This dream became realistic when I came to the United States of America to finish high school. Coming as an immigrant with a minimal knowledge of the English language and American Culture, I spent my high school years learning English and struggling to adapt to the rigorous school curriculum. After completing high school, my life took an unexpected turn; I found myself working full time to support the needs of my family. Nonetheless, years later, my dream to pursue degree in the field of healthcare has flourished. By entering this field, I hope to make a positive contribution both locally here in Pennsylvania and globally.…
I began spending much of my free time reading up on the latest advancements in medical research. The subject matter engendered a level of excitement that I did not experience in the work related to my current career. My enthusiasm for the material, in combination with the experiences from my upbringing, prompted me to enroll in undergraduate biology and chemistry courses. These studies led me to the realization that I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to combine my commitment to science with my desire to make an impact in the field of medicine. I have decided to move forward with applying for a master’s degree in cell and molecular biology at San Diego State University (SDSU) in order to facilitate a career change to medical…
I believe that a physician should wholeheartedly and selflessly serve his patients. I believe in care beyond alleviating the presented symptoms. I believe it is essential to educate patients to lead a healthy life through good habits and nutrition. I believe that manipulation has proven a useful tool in caring for patients and am eager to learn its technique. I believe that caring for the whole patient is an important mission worthy of my future education and career.…
The biggest appeal for medicine is the elegant combination of gaining scientific knowledge, mastering it and then applying it for the care of people when they are most vulnerable. Curiosity and providing compassionate care inspires me to pledge a lifelong commitment to learning in the field of medicine. The core philosophy of osteopathic medicine; finding not disease but health in patients resonates with me. I would want to be cared for and be treated by a physician who incorporates this superior level of depth and compassion in their practice.…
Since I was a child, education has been an integral part of my life - beyond achieving high grades, developing an extensive range of knowledge among differing topics like english, science, and global history has always been something I’ve enjoyed learning at leisure. While other kids played at the park, I would be reading about astrophysics or new advancements in genetic engineering. Medicine specifically, moreover, has become a primary interest of mine throughout the years, and have only strengthened given certain circumstances in my own life.…
As a 4.0 student, I plan to expand my education by attending a four-year university. As of now, I plan on attending the University of Iowa to pursue pre-medical. While pursuing pre-medical, I plan on majoring in a scientific field and minoring in art animation or Spanish. Upon completion of my Bachelor of Science degree, I hope to continue my graduate medical education at the University of Iowa. My end goal is to become a pediatrician or an obstetrician-gynecologist. To achieve these goals, I want to foster skills such as communication, adaptability and flexibility, and problem-solving. I want to grow my skills in communication, so I can ask questions in class, negotiate, or influence others. Developing my skills in adaptability and flexibility…
