Writing is meant for people to properly convey their feelings, thoughts, hopes, and opinions. My own writing has its own strengths and weaknesses and it needs to become better and more affirmative. The weakness that I know that I have is knowing the proper grammar and writing style for what I am trying to portray. Though I am able to use rhetoric and analyze writing and show my thoughts. I need to improve my writing so people want to read it and can understand it.
Part of writing is knowing how to and when to fix what is wrong with it. I am someone who struggles with grammar but who loves the art of writing but, can’t write that well themselves. I have read thousands of books. While I read I see phrases and sentences in other people’s literary work that could be changed or made slightly better. I need to use this editing technique in my own work to catch mistakes that are grammatically incorrect and style wise that do not make sense. This could make my own essay writing skills tremendously. Also the act of using more proficient vocabulary properly, often, and affectively will change it for the better. With the use of a more developed vocabulary or verbage the reader sees you the author as a more intelligent, persuasive, …show more content…
and respectable person. With the hope and expectation that I can change my own writing for the better will make me want to be a much better and stronger.
On the other hand, I can acknowledge different types of rhetoric and writing styles put those skills in my own literary work.
From reading non-fiction book, fiction books, and speeches I notice the use of literary allusions from the bible, Greek and Roman mythology, and Shakespeare's work. For example Geoffrey Chaucer used biblical connections to connect his characters to the audience through something they knew well. When, reading speeches like Queen Elizabeths to her troops at Tilbury in 1588 I notice she addresses the concern people have for her as ruler and a woman. I feel it is a strength of mine to notice the tone of voice of the author or narrator of a passage and then put it onto paper in my own
words.
Writing is important to our society and everyday life because it is a non-verbal communication of our words and thoughts. The act of putting pen, pencil to paper is absurd we as humans created this system of markings to create a whole language regulating to the grunting noises and sounds we make. Literary works are passed on to generation to generation teaching lessons and telling stories of people's lives. Otherwise we would have no true remembrance of what happened in the past and wouldn’t be able to learn from that. Writing is a skill that completely changes a society. People understand and reflect so much from others literary work and without it we as a people would be completely lost. My hope with taking this class my writing will improve significantly. My weaknesses will become more like strengths and my strengths will develop into something even stronger and concrete.
