The first self-assessment that I completed was the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). “The MBTI is primarily concerned with the valuable differences in people that result from where they like to focus their attention, the way they like to take information, the way they like to decide, and the kind of lifestyle they adopt” (Myers, 1962, p. 2). This self-assessment was very helpful in allowing me to see how I like to connect with my surroundings and the outside world. The first duality is extraversion versus introversion. “This scale describes two opposite preferences for where you like to focus your attention: on the inner or outer world” (Myers, 1962, p. 3). In my self-assessment I got a score of 2 points for extraversion and 8 points for introversion. This allows me to see that I have a preference to focus more on my inner world. In addition, it also means that I get energized from what happens in my inner world, which is where I like to direct my energy. In my self-assessment I got a score of 7 points for thinking and I got a score of 13 points for feeling. This demonstrates to me that I like to consider what is important to me and to other people when I make decisions and that I decide on the basis of person-centered values. I believe this score is also correct, as it reflects my need to consider others when I make decisions.
