Staten island NY 10306 demeniorcounty@aol.com In an effort to balance my studies with Penn foster I had to find a happy medium within my days and break the days into hours. There are 24 hours in a day and I break it down evenly into 4 parts, six hours sleep, six hours studies, six hours work and six hours family or at least this is what I try to go by. Of course having kids can throw my schedule a little off track but for the most part I stick to this schedule. In order to maintain this balance I had to take less hours at work in order to successfully maintain this schedule. I figured there are 24 hours in the day so that is plenty of time to study, work, be a father in my family and also get the rest necessary to carry out my week. My kids of course get the most time out of me, even when I’m studying I’m still a father and it does take its toll on my studying hours. In an effort to successfully balance my day I traded my sleep time with my study time which works out since I am a night owl anyway. Studying at night gives me the peace I need to get my studying done and with the kids asleep I can make up ground that I lost during the day, but where my studies rise my sleep falters just a little. Fortunately for me I sleep like a rock so I don’t really hear much when I am asleep and it does help when my fiancée would take care of the girls while I sleep. In more than a few ways I couldn’t maintain a healthy schedule without some assistance so I could only imagine what single fathers and mothers go through. I think the hardest part of taking on another task as education on top of being a father and working is the amount of attention that all three of these tasks require. While I’m at work I try to study during my breaks but trying to rush in a lunch while reading isn’t as easy as it seems especially with the distractions of co-workers and there curiosities. It doesn’t just stop at work, even
