Degree Choice Everyone in the world has a journey to find their passion. Whether it be short, long, thought-out or impulsive, people may find out what career field they'd like to join. Once one discovers their passion and what career path to follow, they are then made to pursue a degree that will help them excel. For some it took only moments to decide their fate; it takes some only a simple decision towards what path they want to take. It took me years of researching, exploring and see-sawing between numerous careers and different degrees to pursue. There were a few things I knew from the beginning along with a few things I picked up along the way that I wanted to do. I've always known I've wanted a degree from the beginning, but I started wanting a degree thinking it'd make me more money than average; I've learned since then it's almost the only way to get a decent job in this day and age. Now that I'm older, I finally decided my future as far as the degree I want and what I'd like to do with it. I've also decided how and where I'm going to obtain my degree. There are so many ways to go to college and get a degree; I could have gone to an online school, a 4 year university, a community college or even a mixture of all. With all the different choices in the world, it's a hard decision to make. I'd like to start off by explaining why I've always known I wanted a degree. Ever since I was a child, I've been a momma's boy. Throughout my elementary years my mom went to school full time and was a huge inspiration to me, proving to me that I could go to school and urging me subconsciously that I should go. As I got older, I started reading statistics of the money degree holders earned over high school graduates; I felt as though I needed a degree to be wealthy after I read those statistics, and I started making connections between the wealthy I knew and their education levels. I became a little more mature, and I paid

The article “Are You Deciding On Purpose” about the interview of author, speaker, and counselor Richard Leider really made me think about my life and what I want to do with myself. Leider brings up many great points in the interview and it was an eye opener for me after I finished reading the article. The first thing he mentions in the interview is how people are intimidated by all the choices we have now as career options. Nowadays, there are so many career paths to choose from that it overwhelms people and the decisions that they make. I think this is true for everyone and especially me. I thought about this for a while and I too do not have any idea what I want to do in my life. I have changed my mind many times about what I wanted to do as a career and I always thought about the money. After I finished reading the article, I realized that picking a career path is not all about the money. It’s about whether you enjoy what you are doing because you spend 60% of your entire life working. If I spent 60% of my entire life just working to pay the bills, I would be miserable by the time I’m retired because there wasn’t any satisfaction or fulfillment for me. I still don’t have any clue on what I want to do with my life but reading this article really changed my mind on a lot of things.…

I went to college for the first time right after high school and learned very quickly that I did not know why I was there. For myself choosing a major was a thought I was unsure of. When I was a junior in High School teachers, classmates and family would constantly ask “what is your major in college going to be?” my answer for a long time was ‘I have some time to think about it, I’m torn between a couple majors, or I might even take a semester off to think about it”, however I had no clue.
