Narrative Essay: Don T Want To Miss Your First Day?
“C’mon, Jodie! Don’t want to miss your first day!” shouts an ecstatic June Thomas. She smiled at her daughter's bed head as Jodie slipped into the bathroom.
Jodie prepared her favorite shirt the night before, a cotton shirt with a world map printed across the front. Matching it with blue jeans and a pair of black Converse, she dons her outfit and hops down the stairs. Once at the kitchen table, Jodie pulls out her phone to check the time. Realizing she’s running late, she scarfs down her cereal, hugs her parents, and rushes out the door.
Jodie’s walk to school was always a very serene experience for her. Living in Pacific Beach meant you could smell the sea breeze and taste the salt in the air. As the sun peeks over the treetops, the sky lights up in azure blue.

The boy sits down next to her, chuckling quietly to himself.
Class begins as Mr. Jones hands out the syllabus for the year. Jodie takes note of the chapters and writes down what to study later in notebook, and her seatmate gives her a strange look.
“What could you possibly be writing down? He hasn’t even said anything yet,” a whisper travels to Jodie’s ear.
“Just a note,” she says, reciprocating the same tone of the voice. Accepting the answer, the boy goes back to looking around the room while Mr. Jones explains what they will be learning in the next two semesters. Jodie diligently writes down key chapters that he says will be important on the final, as well as pages he recommends for studying. The bell rings and she packs up her belongings, in order of size, of course, and carries them in her arms.
“What a model student you are,” the boy teases her.
“I suppose,” Jodie shrugs, walking away. While stepping out of the room, she feels a tap on her shoulder. Turning around, she meets the eyes of the boy. Becoming annoyed, she sighs and asks “What?”
“What’s your name?” he asks. “I’m Finn. Finn Myers,” he adds,

32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the…

He continues around the room, stopping at almost every desk to make some remark. After about 10 minutes he goes to the front of the room and says, “Class, it appears that several people are having problems with this assignment.…
