Narrative Essay On Fishing
When I was five, I met a man that would change my life forever. The first time I saw him, he was laying tile at our house which at the time was under construction. I watched as he very eloquently laid mortar and tile in a way that I had never seen before. Soon he sat down with my dad and I and asked us if we would like to come down to his cabin with him and go fishing. I jumped at the opportunity and in two weeks we were driving from Austin to Corpus Christi. I did not know it then, but this man, Melvin Miller would end up defining almost all of the principles I have today. This first time, I learned about the water and protecting the environment, but I also learned the difference between right and wrong but more importantly how to work hard. It may sound like these trips to this cabin are difficult or stressful but they are quite the opposite. Infact, when I come back from a trip to the cabin, I am more relaxed than ever and ready to work hard. …show more content…
I am much more energetic than when I am sitting in a chair working and I am more aware. A specific example is when I was dove hunting on a small island that our friends own a part of. The island is in a series of manmade islands that are made from sand that was pulled from the ocean floor when making a channel. The water is usually only a few feet deep and the water is crystal clear. The island is small, only about 40 acres and there is only one more cabin. The only way to reach this island is by taking our small boat 40 minutes to the island. For this reason there are very few people and only nature. When I am on the island, I feel super peaceful and so I loose all my stress. I love walking around the island, either hunting, fishing or birding. When I am walking around the island, all the troubles I have are gone and I just focus on the wind and the water. I love this island and it helps me bring out me most favorite feeling,

The splashes of the freezing spillway mixed with the cold wind coming off the water sent chills down my back. I yawned, the loud purr of the tugboat next to us made it impossible to hear my uncle ask if I was tired. We were passing the train of barges right after we left the launch and were headed into the woods. I have done all this before. It was all familiar to me. The only difference was that I had never been out here this early. The eerie white light of the moon was the only thing that let us see right now. Luckily for us the moon was huge and full tonight. It was about 4:30 in the morning and we were speeding into the swamps of the spillway. I looked at my uncle and I saw him standing up, driving the boat, with a smile on his face. This was his job and he loved it. When you love the wilderness, being out in the woods for eight hours a day was a treat. Especially when it ended with picking up a paycheck of about a thousand dollars at the end of each of those days.…

In 1983, a male killer whale was captured in the North Atlantic, at the age of 2, he was already 11.5 feet long. They named him Tilikum. Tilikum was first introduced at Sealand, at night they stored the whales in a “module”, a dark, metal 20 x 30 feet box for two-thirds of their lives. During the winter the orcas would be locked in from 5 pm to 7 am. February, 1991, Kelty Burn falls into the water, then Tilikum brings her down, and drowns her. In the newspapers it claimed that it was an accidental drowning. Sealand closed, and SeaWorld needed a breeder. So, SeaWorld purchased Tilikum. Blackfish is a documentary that follows story of Tilikum, a captive killer whale that has taken lives of several people, and presents major issues within the sea-park industry.…

Some people believe that Sea World is a greedy, profit-seeking organization that couldn’t care less about the treatment and well-being of their animals, but the truth is, the animals are in the best possible care. If the orcas or any other animal at Sea World were anywhere else, they would not get the attention and care they need to survive. Sea World’s reputation was tarnished severely by the documentary, Blackfish, in 2013. “This documentary claims that life at Sea World is cruel and harsh for both the trainers and the whales and that they have attempted to cover up the truth about many incidents involving their whales; both are false (Truth About Blackfish, Sea World Cares.com). Kyle Kittleson, a former marine mammal trainer for Sea World, states, “the documentary, Blackfish, is about 15% correct; one of those facts being in Sea Worlds earlier times, like the 60’s and 70’s, people had a different…

Who does not love to see dolphins and whales flipping and doing tricks? Although the animals look happy and unharmed, there is a dark truth behind the captive marine life in amusement parks and zoos. Yes, attending zoos and marine life amusement parks are a part of childhood; but recently researchers have discovered just how cruel the environment is for the marine life in captivity. After studies of comparing the quality of life of marine animals in the wild and in captivity, there are multiple examples shown in Blackfish, PETA, and the Animal Welfare Institute that show that animals prosper and live longer in their natural habitats. Due to the cruelty endured by the captivated Orcas, all the SeaWorld parks should be shut down and the Orca whales should be set free to prevent further demise to their species.…

I worked for tips and rent wasn’t cheap. I HAD to learn how to cook because I was utterly broke. I got good at budgeting nearly every penny and one day while shopping at costco (membership was a christmas gift), I spotted a wok and stir fry cookbook. I absolutely loved spicy Asian cuisine and there were so many recipes that looked good to eat! Bonus, I already owned a carbon steel wok. I sacrificed groceries that day to have enough to buy it. That book changed my life. I experimented with many different vegetables and learned to cook things that I was sure I didn’t…

After an analysis of the sport of fishing, I have learned a lot about its discourse community and how people are involved in the sport today, and how the sport has effected the world today. My research started with the interpretation of several books related to the discourse community, which brought the attention of new information about professional fishing to the forefront of my research of the everyday life of the discourse community members. The sport of fishing has a wide variety of the type of members that represent the community, such as new members, or members that are not as serious as a professional fisherman, but anyone can join the discourse as an up and coming member at anytime, especially little kids. To become apart of this discourse all you really need to do is have the desire to go fishing, which a lot of people use as a relaxation tool for their life.…
