Narrative Essay On Spider Mascots
When I was seven years old, I was lying on the couch reading a book while my dad was watching television. I saw something moving, out of the corner of my eye, and as I turned my head to see what it was, I saw a huge daddy long legs trekking over the cushions, six inches from my face. I screamed and leaped off the couch, crying for my dad to come kill the creature. He told me to calm down, picked up the spider by one of its legs, and threw it outside. Ever since then, I have been terrified of spiders.
If someone had told me, when I was a little girl, that I would be applying early to a university with a spider mascot, I would have laughed and thought that that person didn't know me at all. And yet, here I am. I had visited the university twice

No matter how heavy the rain is, no matter how hard the wind blows, this spider web stays in tact. It has been there for two years. Don't get me wrong, I have never gotten close enough to see if there was a spider that actually lived there, but it is so big that I haven't had to get any closer than fifteen feet to see its architecture clearly. It is perfectly symmetrical, each silky string the same distance away from the …show more content…
How do they construct their webs with the supporting branches so far apart? After a little research, I found an article that explained how spiders use the breeze to float from one branch to the other, spinning their webs as they fly. They are perfectly proportioned so that their body weight doesn't pull them down when they float from branch to branch. Rosie was the proud owner of an Eastern Box Turtle! Excitement radiated from her as she read through the Wikipedia pages and turtle forums I had found. She could not believe how much there was to learn about the baby turtle she had found in her backyard. After an hour of passionate debate on the diet of the Eastern Box Turtle, she left the lab to brag about what she had learned. I had come to the senior center expecting to teach some lethargic retirees how to create email accounts, but I left reminded of the unbridled joy that comes from learning and teaching. As I have progressed through high school I have used Rosie’s infectious energy as inspiration in my life. Her enthusiasm has pushed me to go past the curriculum and share my passions…

In his article “The Peacock Spider” for Creation magazine, Michael Eggleton discusses a spider native to Australia. The Peacock Spider is covered in bright red, yellow, and blue scales that change depending on the location of the viewer. These scales are used by the male Peacock Spiders to attract the female spiders. Eggleton states that “consistent evolutionists will not allow the concept of added beauty or ‘beauty for beauty’s sake’.” Evolutionists suggest that aesthetic features like the Peacock Spider’s scales or the peacock’s tail came about as a part of natural or sexual selection.…

Fear has a unique way of taking over our entire body, well at least it does for 20 year old Mason Lee Childress. Since the begging of our relationship he has had no problem showing how terrified he is of spiders. Regardless of their size, they could be no bigger than a bottle cap, and he’d still run the other way when coming across one. I’ve asked him how long he's had this fear towards spiders, and he began to explain how he wasn't always afraid of them until he was around 6 or 7 and blames his sibling for it.…

Description: I was a freshman in high school and a disagreement broke out among the current and past students from my high school over its mascot named “rebel”. The disagreement got out of hand several times and had been a contentious issue for years. That particular year several students petition the school board to have the mascot changed. I and my family attended the meeting to see what all the fuss was about and why an agreement of some kind could not have been reached before it got to this point. One group in our area was of the opinion it was racist and should not be used in any context. The other group felt that it was by definition “opposing or taking arms against a government or ruler” (Merriam-Webster.com). There were outside people…
