No matter how heavy the rain is, no matter how hard the wind blows, this spider web stays in tact. It has been there for two years. Don't get me wrong, I have never gotten close enough to see if there was a spider that actually lived there, but it is so big that I haven't had to get any closer than fifteen feet to see its architecture clearly. How do they construct their webs with the supporting branches so far apart? After a little research, I found an article that explained how spiders use the breeze to float from one branch to the other, spinning their webs as they fly. They are perfectly proportioned so that their body weight doesn't pull them down when they float from branch to branch. With this knowledge, I wondered why Richmond would use a spider as its mascot, so I did some more research; I found that spiders are often associated with success, good judgment, perseverance, and
