Introduction
Nelson Mandela was an important man in the history of South Africa and because of him South Africa is the way it is today. He has gone through many hardships to make South Africa a better place and he singlehandedly got rid of the contract causing inequality (The Apartheid.) Nelson Mandela was the biggest influence to Native South Africans and was the main reason why they fought for equality.
Biography
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 he lived in harsh times where black people where considered as lesser beings. Because Nelson Mandela was against apartheid he was jailed for 27 years. While nelson was in jail he was given a choice to leave jail now and to stop protesting against the government and apartheid or to stay in jail, nelson chose to stay in jail. Apartheid is a racist law that was put into place when the first white person was elected for president in South Africa. The law Apartheid states that the black people have to be separated from the whites. Nelson Mandela changed the modern world by inspiring people to go against race discrimination and to fight for equal rights. While Mandela was in prison the other black South Africans were continuing what Mandela started, they protested and increased in power. Nelson was not forgotten and his call for freedom was spread through South Africa. Their power increased so much that after Mandela was released the government allowed the Black South Africans to vote for the country’s president. In 1994 Nelson Mandela won the election for president in South Africa. Mandela terminated the law of apartheid and he also gave equal rights to all races and people. Because of Nelson Mandela South Africa has gotten rid of all types of racism and now is a Native South African and White Settler area. Many countries were like South Africa and were suffering because of inequality and witnessing what Nelson Mandela had done with South Africa made many counties get rid of any laws that were similar to the Apartheid. South Africa is now a place where all Native South African and White settlers can live together in peace and harmony helping each other not fighting. All of Mandela’s fighting and contribution in help South Africa to become a better placed has paid off immensely. Now South Africa has no Apartheid contract and all natives and settlers live together in peace. South Africa Today does not have areas where natives couldn’t and could go.
