In today’s society, most young adults are uneducated about the problems our world is facing and the tragic events people outside America have to deal with. When I was going through a Times magazine the other day, I noticed many big headlines about people suffering on the other side of the globe and I wondered why these stories are not talked about in schools, on social media, or even amongst peers. Instead of actually doing research or just simply reading a certified magazine that gives specific evidence and details, people start to be mislead with wrong information about a culture or religion based off of what they hear from others. The only way I noticed the situations was by opening up a magazine and actually reading the details provided about the situation. From his article “The Tomes They Are A-Changing,” Benedict Jones explains that “...these magazines raise awareness of what is going on in the world and act as only one component in a larger interactive web of radio, television, and other new media that help us to stay connected to a huge, global community of seven billion people and counting” (99). I strongly agree with Jones that magazines cause attention to world events and help us stay connected with people around the globe by knowing current events. If young children and adults read over some magazines, they would end up being more knowledgeable of worldwide news and events, which will help them become more well rounded people towards
