Narration is what allows us to grasp every action and detail in a story. Although authors are usually expected to guide readers through a book, Ernest Hemingway in Hills Like White Elephants decided to narrate his story in journalistic fashion. The story being told in an objective narrative format allowed for imagination and assumptions. The story being told in third person point of view which is objective, never allows us into the minds of the characters. We are only given minimal background and specifics. Though not much is offered, we can analyze various moments in the narration that contributes and shapes to the meaning of the story.…

The author's attitude is very sarcastic through the entire essay. Also it seems that he is being very pessimistic. He zooms in on all the evil and hatred in the world and doesn't focus on all the caring, giving and kind people throughout the world. He does have many excellent points about the way people are and a great deal of it is really true but I think that he went just slightly too far. Overall though the essay does have a high-quality base idea but I think that the examples used only represent a small percentage of the overall population.…

Each individual is titled to their own beliefs, but when everyone must come to an agreement, it may escalate to the infringement of many freedoms that many may value. The Noncommissioned Officer has always been called the backbone of the Army. They connect the brain to the muscles. The brain would be considered the Officers who dictate the objectives. In most cases it is also the Officers who decide which tactics will be used to accomplish the mission. At that point it is the NCO’s job to assure that the objectives are accomplished. As a military we use decentralization of leadership to be able to win battles and wars. Higher leadership cannot predict every situation or need that might arise; therefore, they need junior…
