The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce recently acknowledged Northrop Grumman as a Best-of-the-Best corporation for inclusion. This is one of many awards received acknowledging Northrop Grumman’s work in developing progressive LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination policies. These policies prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation,
as well as gender identity. Although 86% of the top 50 government contractors in the U.S. had policies in place as of April 2012 that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, only about one-half of them had policies that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. As Northrop Grumman prepared to move its headquarters from Los Angeles to the east coast in 2010, controversy arose around the state of choice. Wes Bush, CEO of Northrop Grumman, publicly declared that despite the state of Virginia’s “recent ruling against the extension of anti-discrimination protections to gays and lesbians,” he was not concerned that Northrop Grumman would have issues fully implementing their “pioneering anti-discrimination internal policies” [cite Falls Church post].
