Nouit Blanche Art Festival Analysis

Festivals are good social gatherings that bring people closer together. One festival I enjoy in particular is the Nouit Blanche art festival in Toronto. This assignment asks me to analyze an event that has taken place recently and record my observations. Some evident observations can be interpreted by the viewers expressions and non verbal cues. This assignment also asks me to relate the festival to concepts of culture. This festival relates to the concept of mass culture because this is an event that everyone of all ages and races seem to enjoy. When I first arrived to the festival, i was unsure if i would enjoy the event or not, because I am not a fan of art in any way. Me and my friends parked outside of the event so we spent about 10 minutes walking there. It was about 11 pm and the streets were pretty crowded with people. We continued walking towards the event and we saw the first sculpture. It was a big, bright elephant with a rainbow of colours on it. There was a large amount of people smiling and taking pictures. There were a lot of couples walking around Toronto as well. In my situation, my friend that goes to school in Toronto was navigating for most of the time because he knew the city better than the rest of us. In situations I observed, there was usually someone suggesting an area to go to next, rather than it being a collective group decision. The observations that have taken place mean that people generally enjoyed the festival. The fact that people of all ages were at the festival suggests that this is a festival available to all walks of life. People taking pictures means that they want to capture the moment and they enjoy what they are seeing.
