NT 1310 NETWORK TOPOLOGY PAPER:
KENDAL JEFFERSON

Network topology refers to layout of a network and how different nodes in a network are connected to each other and how they communicate. Mesh Topology: in a mesh network, devices are connected with many redundant interconnections between network nodes, in a true mesh topology every node has a connection to every other node in the network. There are two types of mesh topologies: Full mesh occurs when every node has a circuit connection it to every other node in a network. Full mesh is very expensive to implement but yields the greatest amount of redundancy, so in the event that one of those nodes fails network traffic can be directed to any of the other nodes. Full mesh is usually reserved for backbone networks. Partial mesh topology: is less expensive to implement and yields less redundancy than full mesh topology. With partial mesh, some nodes are organized in a full scheme but others are only connected to one or two in the network. Partial mesh topology is commonly found in peripheral networks connected to a full meshed backbone. (Beal, 2011) Bus topology: in networking a bus is the central cable the wire that connects all devices on local-area network. It is called the backbone. This is often used to describe the main network connections composing the internet. Bus networks are relatively inexpensive and easy to install for small networks. Ethernet systems use a bus topology. The main advantage is that it’s easy to connect a computer of device and typically it requires less cable that a star topology. Main disadvantage is the entire network shuts down if there is a break in the main wire and it can be difficult to identify the problem if the network shuts down. (Beal, 2011) Ring topology: a LAN whose topology is a ring. That is, all of the nodes are connected in a closed loop. Messages travel around the ring, with each node reading those messages addressed to it. One main advantage to a ring network is that it can span larger distances than other types of networks, because each node regenerates message as they pass through it. (Beal, 2011) Tree topology: this is a “hybrid” topology that combines characteristics of linear bus and stat topologies. In a tree network, groups of star-configured networks are connected to a linear bus backbone cable. Main advantage is a tree topology is a good choice for larger computer networks as the tree topology “divides” the whole network into parts that are more easily manageable. Main disadvantage the entire network depends on a central hub and a failure of the central hub can cripple the whole network. (Beal, 2011)

Attach a rollover cable to the PC’s COM port and then to either the Auxiliary or Console port on the router. Connect to the Console port because messages from the router are logged on this line. A bus topology uses one cable to connect many different pieces of equipment to one cable. That cable is typically a coax that is connected to a terminator, also known as a resistor, at each end that keeps the signal from “ringing.” This type of network is usually less expensive than other forms due to its lack of needing multiple cables. This can also lend itself to failure if the cable is cut or the resistor goes bad the whole network goes down and can’t be brought back until that cable is replaced, much more difficult than replacing a switch or hub.…

Backbone Network: Connecting all of the LANs of an organization entails another type of network (BN). A properly designed backbone network provides a high-speed circuit that serves as the central conduit across which the LANs of an organization can communicate. They can also be used to connect LANs within a building, across a campus, and, increasingly, across much greater distances. A BN, as indicated by its name, is a network of its own. Besides connecting the various network segments, the backbone may have its own devices that can be accessed by other network segments…

The first network topology is hierarchical star, also known as the tree topology. This topology has different levels. The top level is the ‘root’ node; it serves as the central connection to the next level of computers. Then the second levels of computers serves as a connection to the third level of computers so on and so forth for the rest of the computers.…

Network topology refers to the physical layout of a network. The chosen layout directly impacts how each node on a given network communicates with another. There are multiple types of topologies that can be used based on the need of the project. The ultimate goal is to provide multiple lines of data communication which will increase fault tolerance on the network and reduce or eliminate a complete disruption of service.…

Wired networking connections provide the foundation of the Local Area Network. Incoming connections, Data Center interconnections, IT closet facilities, and stationary computing devices have all traditionally been connected to the network via a series of cables. The primary benefit to a wired connection is that the wire provides a standard level of service (performance, security, reliability) which can be relied upon in all situations. Typically, wired connections (correctly installed) have an extremely low failure rate and provide a standard of service which helps provide a very low cost for support per connection. Once…

In this DB response I first will describe the configuration of the Hybrid Topologies. There are five different kinds of topologies. Witch type you use will depend on how much money you want to spend, how you want to set things up and how many CPUs you will be using on the network. It’s called hybrid topology because two different kind of wire network if needed, and can’t be set up by the conventional process. Setting up a hybrid topology has some good and bad perspectives. The good things are effectiveness, flexibility, it is reliable and scalable. Some of the bad things about the hybrid topology set up are, expensive infrastructure, and hub. Also it is a very complex way to set up a network.…
