Number The Stars Chapter Summaries
In the book titled, Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry I have learned many interesting facts about the period of time between World War 1 and World War 2. This book tells the story of a little girl named Annemarie and her family and friends.
One day three girls were walking on the sidewalk and their names were Annemarie, Kirsti, and Ellen. Then they wanted to race so they raced, but they got stopped by two German soldiers because during the war Germany took over a lot of countries except Sweden. The soldiers told them to stop, and return home once they arrived at their apartment, Annemarie told her mom what happened. Her mother asked them why they were running, Annemarie replied they were racing to the corner. Their mother told them not to race anymore.

Ellen's parents dropped her off because the soldiers were trying to capture the Jews, and Ellen could only go to the Johansens house because they had enough space. Kirsti’s mom took her to the store while Annemarie and Ellen were imitating “Gone With the Wind” with paper doll cutouts. When they got back from the store Kirsti asked if she could play also so they played for a few hours and then it was time for dinner. They ate a piece of bread, got ready for bed, and went to sleep.
Once they were about to fall asleep, someone started banging on the door, Annemarie’s mother went to answer the door, when she opened the door two German soldiers were standing in the doorway. They came to inspect the house for any Jews, but their mother told the soldiers there were no Jews there but they still looked and all of the girls were asleep. The soldiers didn’t see any Jews, so they left and the plan worked by dropping off Ellen at the Johansens
