Nursing Faculty/Educator Interview
Florida International University’s Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences (NWCNHS) is located on the Modesto Maidique campus in Southern Miami-Dade County. It is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and boast and enrollment of approximately 1800 students. The school graduates around 500 students annually and there are about 900 alumni throughout the United States. There are 75 fulltime faculty members that provides educational and learning activities for the enrolled students. She obtained her EdD form the University of Miami, MSN and ARNP from Florida International University, and her BSN from Nova Southeastern University. Her areas of specialties include family nursing, maternal and child health care, women’s health, internal medicine, health care education and adult education. Dr. Wright is very passionate and knowledgeable about her profession and excitedly provided the information requested during our interview session. She was observed to be a good communicator and practices high professional standards. In her role as an associate professor, Dr. Wright is responsible for providing students with the theoretical and practical skills that they require. This is accomplished through classroom lectures and clinical laboratory exercises. She is also involved in the development and evaluation of the school’s nursing curriculum, which she explains is essential for students’ successful achievement of a nursing …show more content…
Wright teaching load consists of her teaching 8-12 graduates credit hours per semester. In addition, she is the coordinator for the internship program for nursing students with various community hospitals. Dr. Wright is also required to be productive in her scholarship by writing several publishable articles annually. She revealed that she articles are published in the journal of nursing, and she is the coauthor of a textbook on women’s health. To remain current and on the cutting edge of the nursing profession, Dr. Wright is involved in the American Association of Critical Care Nursing (AACN), Association of internal Medicine, National League of Nursing, National Association of ICU Nursing, among other organizations. She attends conferences regularly, she often presents her work at these conferences. As mentioned before, Dr. Wright is passionate about her work and the nursing profession. She uses these organizations as the platform for advocacy and social networking to advance the nursing
