The feminist perspective establishes the idea that relationships and connections with others are important (Huber, 2014). Furthermore, the nature of my nursing position, which focuses on collaborative process improvements, also dictates a collaborative effort and teamwork. Situational theories identify that leadership style may be altered based on the situation, for instance, the readiness of followers (Huber, 2014). Readiness is the followers’ ability and willingness to accomplish a goal (Huber, 2014). In my experience, one situation that can be challenging for democratic leaders is collaborating with nurse managers to achieve a process improvement. Although nurse managers are very knowledgeable regarding a process, they may not be willing to take on the responsibility (Huber, 2014). Therefore, Hersey and Blanchard’s Tri-Dimensional Leader Effective Model is helpful (Huber, 2014). For instance, one may need to sell the idea of change using credible evidence to support the change.
