Nutcracker Descriptive Writing
Entering a large venue, walking on what seemed to be a mile long stage, knowing that all eyes are staring at me. Stage lights flood the stage, music begins. Being backstage, anxious to get on stage and perform. This is what happened on my first Nutcracker show in the Party Scene. It was a cherished and unforgettable moment and a thrilling feeling I will never forget. In those minutes, I knew dancing was an enjoyment for me. It was a day in December, my friends and I were walking up to the auditorium where Salt Creek Ballet was having their annual Nutcracker performance. We arrived in the crowded and chaotic dressing room where the fumes of hair spray and fluffy, shiny, laced, and glittered costumes were tossed around the room. Many dancers …show more content…
All of us, were the first scene, and together, were allowed on the stage to warm up and make sure we know what we are doing. I suddenly had a funny feeling in my stomach that I had never felt. I wondered, had my dad, brothers and sister arrived to watch me perform. Before I knew it, the music started and me and seven other sparkling and shiny dresses were dancing on to the stage. I immediately looked into the audience and made eye contact with my family; my smile grew bigger and the horrible feeling in my stomach had gone away. The Nutcracker music always made me feel a certain way and it make me want to dance my heart out on the …show more content…
We proceeded to releve, plie, and jete across the taped stage. For the finale, we each had our turn for a bow to the audience. When it was my turn, my whole family cheered and it brought the biggest smile onto my face and what I thought was a perfect way to end the show, the audience applauded and I adored every single cheer and shout. At the end, we all took a bow together and proceeded off the stage. I remember walking off the stage feeling excited, proud and ready to do it all over again. After the show, my mom came backstage with a dozen roses just for me. It was the first of many roses to

Nutcracker! (2002) by Matthew Bourne is performed to the tradition Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky. It is a narrative ballet and throughout the dance the score is used to enhance the storytelling and the characterisation. At the start of Act One the Matron claps her hands and the orphans get to work scrubbing and cleaning the orphanage. The musical accompaniment is bright and busy with the opening phrase building to a climax, as this happens two orphans wheel on a sad looking Christmas Tree (a twig in a pot). The orphans gather around in excitement and amazement, enhanced by the climax in the score, and this shows how deprived the orphans are that they get excited about the arrival of this very sad tree.…

On December 18, 2015 I had heard once that day that it was snowing. That crisp, pure snow was falling right outside the theater where 50 dancers, including myself, were rushing to get ready. I didn’t get to see it that day, but I wish I had. I was with two of the best friends you could ever ask for. Each of us was dressed in our own version of an 1800's party dress, like we always are when we preform Tchaikovsky's Classic Nutcracker. Abby's having an odd flower design over deep burgundy, Jadyn's had a full blue dress with an abnormal piece of cloth working as a chest plate, and mine could be used as a purple and gold checker board based on the pattern. Abby, Jadyn, and I were setting up the last of our props when we realized that a doll was missing.…

First performed in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the classic Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker has been shown for over 100 years. The composer, Peter Tchaikovsky, and choreographer Marius Petipa teamed up to create a timeless production as an adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffman’s tale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King." This pair had previously worked together on another classical ballet, Sleeping Beauty.…

When people start putting up Christmas trees and hanging up Christmas decorations, we know that the holiday season is around the corner. It’s this time of the year to see one of the Christmas traditions with your family and friends – The Nutcracker. I had a wonderful time seeing this ballet, performed by the Central Ohio Youth Ballet (COYB), at Midland theatre in Newark, Ohio, on the Thanksgiving weekend with my host family, and I was amazed by the great work and efforts that the performers had created. No wonder why The Nutcracker has became the timeless symbol of Christmas around the world.…

I gazed up into the bleak morning sky and viewed the wafts of smoke, anything to take my mind off what was to come. The sound of the landing craft’s engines revved up indicating we were on our final approach. I gripped my Thompson and carefully glanced over it. The functionality of this gun could mean life or death for me and so it received my dearest attention. Suddenly the ear shattering sound of the big .50 caliber machine gun opened up on our boat. Immediately thereafter, the screech of a whistle permeated the air, and the front of the boat began lowering.…

My ears ring as the old school bus screeches to a halt. We hop off and a dry, winter gust smacks my face. Instantly, my stuffy nose runs. I grasp the cold metal handle of the school door, open it, and slam a piece of wood underneath to keep it ajar. After we become accustomed to the cold shock, Mrs. Cimenski, our director, orders us to haul the heavy wooden tables and a set of four lockers toward our designated area backstage. We struggle through multiple doors and long curtains until we reach our destination. The first aid kit mends our minor cuts and bruises created in the process. Gathering our senses, we collect the makeup and costumes and begin a brisk walk to the classroom assigned to us. The first performance is in an hour and a half,…

The performance started out with the musicians entering the room one by one as they played and opening song, and settling down in their positions. I really enjoyed the movement and the energy they brought with them into the room because it seemed to wake most of the audience up, as some had been waiting for a while. One of my favorite sounds to hear within the music was that of the tuba, which provided the bassline heartbeat. It…

During the Nutcracker I recognized some of the music through out the show. It was classic music that played. The Nutcracker reminded me of the music we listen to in class when we were learning about there romantic period. I thought that the dancing was very pretty and went along with the music very well. I was amazed how you could hear all the different instruments during the show. I personally heard the violin a, flute, cello, clarinet, horns, trumpets, trombones, and also I heard the string family in the Nutcracker. There was more instrument in the show, but the instruments that mention stood out the most to me while I was at the show. I thought all the dances went well and corresponded with the music. I thought of the flow of the music…

The drumbeat, gong, and the cymbalist came to a stop. I spun the golden head around my sweaty body, revealing my pink, exhausted face to the audience after what had felt like an endless lion dance performance. Bowing to the crowd, I heard various people yelling, “Wait, that was a girl?” I felt their surprised expressions and approval shine down on me as the result of the intense training I endured. As lion dancer, I never imagined feeling so triumphant.…

This was my favorite dance of the whole year. We had worked so hard on everything, and it was about to pay off. We had just lined up to go on stage when my shoe got untied. I quickly bent down to try to fix it. As I tried to tie it I could feel the cloth lace running through my hands. Next my hands started sweating really badly, making my shoes hard to tie. I could hear the music start as my heart started racing more and more. It was finally time to go on and I had to dance with an untied shoe. Throughout the whole dance I could feel my red fiery face. I even made every step smaller than the next to make sure I did not trip. When I heard the loud crowd, and saw the lights go down, I was so relieved. I had made it through the dance without…

On November 28th, 2015 I attended Ben Stevenson’s version of The Nutcracker which was being performed by the Houston Ballet at the Wortham Theater Center. The dance featured two separate acts and multitude of dances as well as a live orchestra. The Nutcracker demonstrated the Stevenson’s ability to deliver a cohesive performance whilst maintaining the illusion of fantasy using music composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky of the Romantic era, eloquent set design and usage of techniques such as lighting and special effects, as well as precise choreography and overall cohesiveness of the dance and the music.…
