The book I chose to read for my summer homework was In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. Pollan has written many books regarding what to eat and how the foods we consume affect us. In this book, he opens with simple advice, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants” (Pollan 1). As straightforward as it sounds, Pollan quickly demonstrates how complicated this can be. Food is all around us. However, there are whole foods, stuff you’d find at a farmer’s market, and then there are the foods that line up the walls of our supermarkets, highly processed snacks and “foods” that contain a mirade of unpronounceable ingredients. Many of these foods processed foods, especially those that make health claims such as “low-fat”, “lowers…

Overall, I generally eat a fairly healthy and plentiful diet, however, I did discover some lacking areas, as well as areas that I am successfully sustaining an adequate amount of the suggested target value. When shopping I typically purchase raw foods such as vegetables and fruits and simply eat them as is to make the process of meal prepping timely and convenient. However, I discovered that my diet lacks in the grain and dairy aspect; I mostly eat microwaveable grains, such as rice and pasta, while my dairy consumption is typically…

The three-day diet analysis was interesting. There were many positive attributes to it and definitely negative ones. Over the course of the three days, which were Friday, Saturday and Sunday: and figured this would give a good depiction of what I was consuming on a regular basis. In some places I was consuming more than I should be and in some I was consuming less than I should be. There were also those places were I was getting just the right amount. It is so interesting to me to be able to find out what I am consuming and how I am consuming it. Being an active male, it was most interesting of what I ate, what my average of the three days were, and the plan on how I would correct the way I eat to make it a more healthier lifestyle.…

I will describe the tool used; the reasons for the assessment; the results of the assessment and the action taken .I will discuss the importance of nutritional screening of all patients in hospital. Confidentiality of the trust, my patients and my colleagues will be maintained throughout this assignment in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct. Nutritional care is a fundamental aspect of health care yet there are still concerns about the effectiveness of care provided especially for elderly patients who are most vulnerable (Age UK 2010) .Having enough to eat and drink is a basic human right and is essential to life and that Assistant Practioners (AP) have a key role in providing good nutritional care to the patient (Potterton and Thatcher 2012).…
