America and Obama Care

For most of my life I’ve been opposed to universal health care for the burden on small business. My personal observation of people choosing between putting food on the table and going to the doctor, I’ve made a180 degree turn and now it has my full support . I still must point out some very reasonable people are opposed on economic and constitutional reasons. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, i.e. Obama care with all its faults is still best for America because it provides affordable care for the poor, improves the health of America, and guarantees insurance for the ill.

From an Article on About.com, Kimberly Amadeo quotes from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that under the Act 32 million Americans will be able to get health insurance. This group normally uses hospital emergency rooms for their primary care increasing the overall cost to everyone. While this number bounces around by a wide range, the fact remains in a few years the group caught in a limbo of not able to afford insurance and making too much for Medicaid, now will have the opportunity to be insured. In conversation with some of this group at work many have voiced concerns of not being able to afford what’s being pushed on them. As one fellow middle aged employee at a large chain retailer stated approximately one month age that her small wages disqualify her for local assistance programs but are inadequate to allow her to afford the cost of insurance. Despite her financial concerns, two days ago she said that she had signed up for insurance through our employer and that her doctor was scheduling long put off treatment and tests for when it takes effect.
