Many believe that insurers have created plans with more benefits that also cost more. Prior to the Affordable Care Act, insurance premiums increased by 14%. Too many people may not be able to afford this high cost, especially those who are self employed. Initially it was stated that a family of four would see a cut in their premiums by up to $2,500 a year. However, that it not what has happened. The author reports that according to the Kaiser figures, in “2011 premiums increased by 9% in 2011. In 2012, the numbers showed a 5% decrease and in 2013 there was a 4% decrease” indicating that changes are being made at a much slower pace than expected. Experts observing the newly reformed policy believe that the reason for the premiums not decreasing as quickly as originally thought is due to the slow recovery of the economy. According to the article the system would allow the Government to have power over medical services and determine dictate which benefits individuals would receive. If America relied on a single-payer government agency, physicians would receive little to no payment for their services; the quality of patient care would be reduced; and fewer individuals will go into the medical field. The author feels that many Americans would prefer continuing to make their own choices when it comes to their and their loved ones health. This article is viewing Obama care from a financial perspective also citing that some doctors may be forced out of business if they rely on the Government for payment which would also affect
