Fundamentally, this academic journal provided vital information on childhood obesity. The linkage between food advertisement and children obesity was concise and conveyed huge issues. Statistics show, that if we can advertise more “healthy” related commercials we can limit obesity challenges. This article is a huge asset to my paper because it exemplifies huge aspects that my paper needs in order to be viable. Fortunately, it allows people to see that there is a chance that it can be changed.…
My assessment: I think "less intrusive interventions" is better idea then removing a child from a family. The last one is an unnecessary action, and may be even damaging for children 's psyche. I don 't defend parents, I also think that parental role is important in children’s obesity issues. I agree that parents should get educated on how to provide healthy nutrition and reasonable activity level for their children. This article would support the idea in my paper that parents are also an important part of society that should be involved in a process of preventing and reducing childhood…
I think that it is about the scarcity of and high demand for certain valuable qualities of character. A quality such as; taking on a difficult task and doing whatever it takes to get it done, without having to ask lots of questions on how to solve the problem at hand. It also means in the face of adversity, find a way to get results to get the job done. Rowan set out to do what he was asked to do and he did it. There were no excuses or foot-dragging. He didn't demand that someone give him more detailed plans of how to accomplish this assignment. He didn't hesitate. He didn't waste time. He didn't give up, although there were plenty of temptations to do so. He stayed focused on his goal.…
Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic. However many aspects need to be considered in order to help any child who is overweight. Children that are overweight need to be assessed to determine if the weight problem is due to psychological issues, or lack of nutrition and physical activity. Do you want to be surrounded with a society filled with obese children? Obesity has become a big problem in America. Parents are not being careful with the amount of junk food they’re allowing their kids to take in. According to Daniel Wientraub’s article “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home”, he claims that parents are in the position to fight the epidemic of overweight children, not the government or fast food companies. I agree with Daniel Wientraub because parents should be held accountable for the obesity of their children.…
If you were to take a walk through the neighborhood park twenty years ago you would see happy, healthy children running all around. If you were to walk in that same park now, you would more than most likely find half the number of children and a good number of them would be considered overweight. Childhood obesity is a very dangerous epidemic with potential catastrophic effects on the health of our future. This report will analyze what causes childhood obesity and what can be done by schools, parents, and communities to help our children grow up happy and healthy.…
Just thinking about unhealthy food makes most Americans mouth water. Obesity in the U.S has become a huge problem in recent years. America's obesity epidemic has hit a new high with 35 percent of obesity among men and 40.4 percent among women in 2013-2014. Most Americans feel embarrassed to even walk next to an obese person or even go near them without feeling claustrophobic. Obese people are an embarrassment to society and are making America look like an unhealthy place to live.…
According to the CDC, “The percentage of children who are overweight has more than doubled, while rates among adolescents have more than tripled since 1980.” (Wechsler, 2004). Childhood obesity in America is becoming an increasingly severe problem. Conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and depression are becoming more prevalent as a result of obesity. The childhood obesity pandemic in America can be traced to several causes, however, topping the list is public school systems and their inability to provide quality nutritional and physical education for their students. Intense focus on standardized tests has placed less emphasis on the broader view of a healthy mind and body (Story, 2008) Childhood obesity is caused by the following…
My interest of going back to school sparked some interesting questions amongst my colleagues. Some would ask, “Why?” Others would ask,” Does it make you a better a nurse?” The comment that all nurses practice under the same governing board so why bother was heard twice. These are great questions and while all nurses do practice under the same board, with the demanding and evolving changes in health care and the numerous studies that show better patient outcomes with baccalaureate prepared nurses at the bedside has sparked a call for 80% of nurses to be BSN prepared by 2020("Institute of Medicine," 2010). A nurse with a higher education can work in diverse health setting, will be equipped to handle these evolving changes and deliver a higher quality of care.…

The obesity epidemic is a multifaceted crisis and not just a food addiction. Since 1957, the government has been conducting the National Healthy Interview Survey (NHIS) which takes sample from 35,000 households containing 87,500 individuals (Center for Diseases Control, 2013). The survey revealed that the steady rise of obesity cases started in 1997. The crisis is expected to worsen; warns that childhood obesity is expected to increase. Since then, the scientific community took notice and started studying the crisis. A plenitude of study recognized that obesity is widely driven by environmental and social factors (Rosengren & Lissner, 2008).…
Obesity is an issue in America, that is impossible to overlook. Americans have always pursued lavish over dull. If an individual wants to be strong or in shape, he or she goes to the gym, educated to school, and if someone wants to be healthy then that means eating well. He or she must take the time to eat and drink well. America is a busy world, and fast food is at every corner to help hard working people save time and money. Does it save time? Yes it does. Does it save money? Not in the long run, with health care for themselves or family members. Of course America is also has a, “blame someone else,” mentality. Responsibility to oneself is lacking tremendously. When it comes to obesity, it's usually the, “its genetic,” or, “I'm big boned.”…
