There is an abundant amount of worldwide controversy on the topic of animal testing. Animal testing is the use of animals to be tested on as research to see the effect of a product before given to a human-being. In this paper, there will be facts shown, opinions, as well as the pros and cons of animal testing. Most people are not properly informed of these type of test. People hear about it here and there, but do they really know the truth? Statistics show there are fourteen to seventy million animals used for animal testing each year. Also, more than fifty percent of the animals tested on die three weeks later. These animals are not just mice and rats, they are dogs and cats as well. Many of the animals in the labs have been burnt, tortured, shocked, or starved. To top it all off, they do not give them any pain medicine to help them cope with the excruciating pain. The animals are almost never taken out of their cages to be played with, other than to be tested on some more. Animals such as rats and mice live in plastic boxes smaller than a shoebox, with over five in the box at one time.
My opinion of animal testing is, to an extent, it is not humane and is unjust. If it came down to losing a friend or family member, I would rather have the burden of pain placed onto the animal. If there is a way to go around animal testing, that would be the best route. I personally believe that there should be more government involvement in the regulation of animal testing. Possibly death row inmates would be a better alternative, because we could see the real effects onto the human bodies.
Lastly, I would like to address the pros and the cons of animals testing. The good things animal testing does is that it gives us a safe alternative to testing it on humans. Animal testing is the most accurate way to learn the effects of substances in a living body. Even though we are not made the same as animals, it is still accurate
