Dreams play an important role in people’s lives.
Someone always has to have a goal in life, whether it be a short term or long term goal. Some goals may be to go to college, some may be to get married. But, some of these goals may be to make a 90 on a Spanish test on Friday or make a 3-point shot at the basketball game Thursday night. Every person has his or her personal goals that they try to achieve to keep them encouraged and inspired and without these goals, dreams to be a basketball player or a teacher would not imprint themselves in the hearts and minds of people everywhere. So, dreams are important because they keep people encouraged and inspired to do something
great. In Of Mice and Men, dreams of Lennie, George, Candy, and Crooks are used in various ways. Lennie just wants to tend to the rabbits. George wants a place he can call home and somewhere where he can make his own rules and work for himself, not for anyone else. Candy wants to feel like he is useful and like he belongs by working on Lennie and George’s farm. And finally, Crooks just wants to feel like someone accepts him for the color of his skin. All of these men have one thing in common: they want to feel like they belong somewhere. These four men have felt like they do not belong where they are and they are just dreaming for something more--something different. Therefore it should be noted that everyone has a dream of some kind and whether it is short-term or long-term--it is still a dream. People as a whole have to be willing to accept where they are and achieve their dreams from where they are standing because there is no perfect time like right now.
