Of Mice And Men Lennie's Suffering
“ The hand shook violently, but his face was set and his hand was steadied. He pulled the trigger.(steinbeck 106)” In the novella Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George are two men traveling together for work. Lennie isn’t the brightest and he always gets George in trouble. When Lennie gets himself into big trouble, George has to make a drastic decision. George has to decide if he wants to put Lennie out of his misery and shoot him, or let Lennie suffer because Curley is after Lennie. The novella shows that killing Lennie was an act of kindness and George didn’t want Lennie to suffer.

George has been caring for Lennie since Lennie's Aunt Clara died, and George shooting Lennie was the only way he could keep Lennie from suffering. Lennie …show more content…
Many are out of their misery every day. It is unfair and unkind to make others live a life of pain and suffering. Many people would not want to be stuck in a vegetative state. Would you want to live in a vegetative state the rest of your life? Medical examiner found that Terri Schiavo was completely in a vegetative state and the most civil thing to do was to put her out of her misery. Schiavo could not get better, keeping her alive would have been cruel. “ if you have damage to your hippocampus, you cannot remember anything, so there is no way for you to learn or improve at all.( bauers, Sandy)” mercy killing is right in most cases. Being in a vegetative state cannot be a good thing, making anyone suffer is cruel and putting them out of their misery is the most humane thing to do. Cases like Terri Schiavo, and many others show why mercy killing is the right thing to do.

Some may say that mercy killing is murder, and should not be done. People might say that mercy killing is not fair the victim has no say in whether they live or die. One article against euthanasia states “ the decision allows euthanasia and assisted suicides. but not also psychological suffering without limiting it to clear parameters.(Warren R.M)” Mercy killing is the most humane thing to do for a patient who is in a vegetative state.
