The main purpose of an advertisement is to inform people about a product. Advertising is a method used to attract customers; it uses language in a form that addresses to specific customers. The addition of icons in an advertisement, permit corporations to influence customers to purchase their product. Using these methods can indicate the strengths and weaknesses of a product, and as a result, may influence customers’ decisions. Advertisements remind consumers about a brand, enabling businesses to set up their product in customers’ minds. Advertisements, each with distinct components, have the ability to promote the value of the brand to customer. The advertisement presents a man who has two distinct appearances; each reflecting how he sees himself on the outside (publicly) and in the inside (privately). The visual elements contained in the advertisement helps create a better understanding; it presents the main message clearly and with detail by illustrating the person’s hidden interests. The message in the advertisement is mainly for men, since they usually have a boring life due to the fact that they spend most of their time at work, or at school. Old Spice; however, seems to contain the cure for such men, since the products; body wash, colognes, and deodorant have the ability to change any man into a better man. Once these products are used, it enables men to discharge their hidden interests to become rock stars, and as a result, allow them to get any woman they desire. In fact, this advertisement does not only attract men, but it also attracts women. It is an indication to women that if they want their lives to have more entertainment when they are with their husbands or friends, then they should purchase this

Perhaps, they are one of the most decisive and, at the same time, imperceptible factors moulding and channelling our “purchasing habits,” so to speak. On the face of it, advertisements promote products and services; they create demand by dint of inducing and increasing consumption. Yet, the ways in which they convey their messages have a profound effect on all aspects of our lives: our happiness, our culture, family and interpersonal relations, business, stereotypes, wealth and status, individuality, and so forth. According to Leiss et al. (1990: 1), advertising is ‘a “privileged form of discourse”’, in that it can attract our attention, insinuating itself into our thought processes and carving out a niche in our lives. As we shall see, advertisements succeed in selling us a lot more than merely products; in fact, they contrive to reconstruct our relations to things and other people—in short, they interfere with our sense of identity, they equate us with things, and manipulate us. Williamson’s observation succinctly encapsulates their power: ‘Advertisements are selling us something else besides consumer goods: in providing us with a structure in which we, and those goods, are interchangeable, they are selling us ourselves’ (Williamson, 1978: 13).
