The Pharma Biotech Corporation spent several years working on developing a DHA product that can be used to provide a “fatty acid” supplement to a whole variety of food products. DHA stands for docsahexaenoic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid found naturally in cold water fish. The benefits of fatty fish oil have been cited in studies of the brain, eyes, and the immune system. Unfortunately, it is both difficult to consume enough fish to get the benefits of DHA and most individuals might be concerned about the taste consequences associated with adding fatty fish oil to eggs, ice cream, or chocolate candy. To counter these constraints, Pharma Biotech and several competitors have been able to grow algae and other plants that are rich in DHA. The resulting chemical compounds then are used to enhance a variety of food products.…

The book I chose to read for my summer homework was In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. Pollan has written many books regarding what to eat and how the foods we consume affect us. In this book, he opens with simple advice, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants” (Pollan 1). As straightforward as it sounds, Pollan quickly demonstrates how complicated this can be. Food is all around us. However, there are whole foods, stuff you’d find at a farmer’s market, and then there are the foods that line up the walls of our supermarkets, highly processed snacks and “foods” that contain a mirade of unpronounceable ingredients. Many of these foods processed foods, especially those that make health claims such as “low-fat”, “lowers…

Considering this practical problem a solution using digital image processing is suggested. A system is developed such that the sick or the dead chicken is identified by an image processing system. The image processing tool box and image acquisition toolbox of MATLAB 7.0 are used to check motion detection in the poultry. Two algorithms that are used for motion detection are 2-D cross correlation and sum of absolute difference algorithm. A paper was designed and developed to identify the dead chicken in the poultry using a webcam, which will be connected to the Universal Serial Bus…
