Radio
Excerpt:
They ride the rest of the way to her house in silence, her and on his arm, the soft purr of the heater backing up the music on the radio. As they round the corner, she suddenly sits up very straight in the seat. “Damn,” she says. “Oh, damn.”
Added Description of the Object: Conrad jumps swiftly into the drivers side of the rusted, orange-tinted car and sinks into the ripped up cloth seats. Jeannine scoots over as she rubs her old, washed out blue jeans against the seat and pulls her feet in, as they clonk onto the floor, small groups of dust rise like a puff from a cigarette. As Conrad turns the keys they rattle softly and the engine roars like an angry lion. As they slam their doors shut, there is a loud boom as the radio blares through the speakers, which causes Conrad and Jeannine to jump back in their seats. They strap in their seatbelts and listen for the familiar click, then slump back into the seats, as the thin strands of air slip through the small tears in the seats from the pressure. There is a soft rumble in the background of the radio from the beaten up car engine. The crackle from the radio fills the car, and the silence between Conrad and Jeannine. Switching stations, Conrad rolls his thumb against the thin ridges on the dial, crackling noises come up like the rustling of a bag of chips. Then a blast of voices begin to speak, the news team gives and update on a rainstorm approaching, the busy traffic to avoid, and the dull, repetitive story about a sketchy looking, yeti-like man who is a suspect of a murder case that the news team will never explain fully. The same stories are told and Conrad still sits in silence as Jeannine wraps her soft and delicate hand in his arm. The two ride along the winding road, watch the trees go by too fast out of the dusty window, and sneak fast glances at one another, as soft and gentle smiles sweep across their pale lips. (179)

While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

Document A: George Henry Evans wrote the document to represent the working class men. In the document, Evans argues that the working class should have the same rights as other classes. He even quotes a part of the Declaration of Independence to support his argument. At the time, the democrats deprived the working class men from their rights, and they abused the working class men instead of protecting their rights. It was during the first year of Jackson’s presidency that the working class organized their own party to defend their rights. When Jackson became president, he attempted to protect the working class men’s equality of economic opportunity. The working class even received the right to vote. Jackson became known as a true democrat and a protector of the common man because of all he had done for the working class. This document is an example of political democracy.…

As soon as she pulled onto the highway, the lightning flashed across the sky and she knew it would start raining soon. Ruth was unfamiliar with the curvy roads, and slowed down when the rain started forming a lake on the road in front of her, making it difficult for her to see the lines on the highway. Dark clouds hung slightly above the road and the sounds of rain beating against the car bothered her. “Perhaps I shouldn’t have chosen this day to ghost hunting,” she said as the inside windows fogged over, turning on the defroster she calmed down and sang along with the radio.…

Everything was loud. The overstuffed bus of children was leaving the school parking lot for its normal route of sudden stops, unforgiving bumps, and of course, transporting students to their destinations. Opposite from every other child on the bus, I sit quietly in seat fourteen listening to the screaming laughter and shrill excitement of the conclusion of another school year. I sit there in silence because I knew that it would be my last bus ride home. I was trying to take everything in: the smell of the old brown bus seats, the half opened windows that tried to keep us cool, the pleasantly plump and incredibly sweet bus driver, and the jovial and rambunctious sounds of kids cackling and yelping. At every stop, I could literally feel my heart drop a little. As the bus neared my neighborhood, my mouth was completely dry. When I saw my house, my heart stopped. There was the moving truck. It was symbol of my leaving home, and the realization that the move was going to happen, and that I had no control over it.…

The human condition is a term which references our complicated existence by highlighting our ongoing ability to adapt and change both our perceptions and values. Through our mental capabilities of both creativity and imagination, humanity is able to achieve a sense of both self-actualisation and liberation, resulting in them acting as the core of our existence where, without them we would become susceptible to the overwhelming flaws of the human condition. Evidencing this are the three texts, ‘Dejection: an Ode’, ‘This Lime Tree Bower my Prison’ and ‘Focus’, which…

    Social Class Essay

Throughout my life I haven’t see or feel the differences between social classes. Yes there are privileged people and under privileged people and I had friends in both. I can see that there are differences between social classes but I do not personally believe in them. What I noticed here in America so far is that you can see a big difference in social classes especially after their young adult life. In high school the differences between social classes do not reveal themselves as much as they do in live after school. In high school a lot of people interacts with from different or similar social classes. In college you can see that people start to separate themselves more. People usually make friends from the same social class. Perfect examples of this are fraternities. You can see the difference between social classes throughout those fraternities. There are fraternities only for the privileged and the elite and you have fraternities for the middle class people. And this will continue throughout life many people will look for their social class. Whether or not they belong there or whether they want to belong there in that specific social class. I would say I’m a part of a higher social class both my families are sharing a in interest in wealth but to my opinion I do not prefer to say I’m in that certain social class. I do not like to be different than any one else and I do not think one family or another is better then somebody else. A major part of my family thinks the same about this I believe. I believe that social classes are just a way to separate people into certain categories and for other people social classes are about obtaining independence. After watching the two documentaries Encounter with Class and People Like Us I can see how social class is related to something visual. I lot of people associate wealth with belongings not intellect or wisdom. Since I first came her…
