NATURE OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
(1) A separate field of study & not a Discipline only
A discipline is an accepted science with a theoretical foundation that serves as the basis for research and analysis. Organizational Behavior, because of its broad base, recent emergence and interdisciplinary orientation is not accepted as science. The Principles, concepts and processes in this field is recently developed and so it can be called as a field of study rather than a discipline.
(2) An Interdisciplinary approach
Organizational Behavior is basically an interdisciplinary approach. An interdisciplinary approach integrates the relevant knowledge drawn from different disciplines for some specific purpose. Organizational Behavior draws heavily from disciplines like psychology, sociology and anthropology. Organizational Behavior also takes relevant things from Economics, Political science, Law and History. Organizational Behavior integrates the relevant contents of these disciplines to make them applicable for organizational analysis.
