All of us have wondered why some people succeed and others fail in the world of work. Most of us have also marveled at how some people seem to possess a bottomless well of enthusiasm for their work, while other regard their work as something only slightly beter than torture. Although most of us often do nothing more than speculate on the factors that affect our work lives, scholars established a field of inqury concerned with the scientific study of the behavioral processes that occur in work settings. Organizational Behavior encompasses such topics as employee attitudes, motivation, and peformance, to name a few. And it extends to larger organizations and enviromental pressures, which influence an individual’s behavior and attitudes. As a whole, OB is the study of understanding the people’s behavior in the organizational settings.
There are basically three reasons for studying OB
a. For Practical application
It is very difficult in dealing with others in an organizational setting. Attracting and influencing , developing talented individuals are two issues critically important to the survival and prosperity of the organization. For an example: colleges that seek to have prestigious reputations have much the same facilities. However, those institutions having faculty members who possess strong reputations in their fields and students who are more competatively admitted have high reputations. Likewise , an organizational success often result from the effective management of people.
b. Personal Growth
The second reason for studying OB is personal growth that we gain gain from understanding our fellow humans. Understanding others may also lead to greater self knowledge and self insight. The course OB is to provide a framework into which later personal organizational experiences can be integrated.
c. Increased knowledge
