The concert started with a Tim Sanchez performance “Oxycotton” that was played on marimba. I would say that the tempo for this piece was allegretto almost all the time. This piece was divided in many parts with a different tempo and pauses in between. The melody most of the time was in a high pitch that is very proper for a flute. Melody and rhythm was changing all the time. Most of the time the tempo for this piece was moderato but it was also getting faster and slower during different parts of the piece.
The third piece, “Blues and Variations for Monk” composed by David Amram was performed by Nicholas Gledhill using a horn. The piece started with forte chords that were played by one note at time. During the performance, he used his breath and his fingers to thrum on the horn and by that creating an interesting sound. The piece was performed at forte or fortissimo dynamics all time through. Tempo was in between moderato and lento but it was also changing and was not the same all the time. This piece was also divided in parts like the previous performance by Samantha
