Section 1 – Grammar (10%)
Quotation Marks – Students must demonstrate that they can use quotation marks and punctuation correctly when citing evidence.
Ex: In chapter 10 of The Hunger Games, Katniss reflects on the audience when she says, “I know they must be tracking me now though. The minute I hit the ground, I’m guaranteed a close-up” (163).
Common Editing Mistakes – Students will be given a small passage that contains several common editing mistakes. Students must identify the common mistakes in punctuation and capitalization. This will include the capitalization of proper nouns (ex. The Hunger Games; NOT the hunger games).
Section 2 – Vocabulary (25%)
Matching Word to Definition or Example (for literary elements/devices, an example of the term may be given rather than the definition).
Using Context Clues (the word will be used a sentence, and student must provide the meaning)

Section 3 Reading Comprehension (35%)
Reading Comprehension Questions about Stargirl ( 10 multiple choice)
Reading Comprehension Questions about The Hunger Games (10 multiple choice/ 10 matching)
One New Passage – Students will be given a new passage to read on the exam that relates thematically to either Stargirl (theme: The Importance of Identity) or The Hunger Games (theme: The Act of Defiance). Students will then answer a series of reading comprehension questions about the passage (multiple choice).
Section 4 – Writing Skills (30 %)
Quotation Analysis – Students will summarize and explain the importance of key quotes selected from both Stargirl and The Hunger Games:
TWO quotes will be given from Stargirl – students must select ONE
TWO quotes will be given from The Hunger Games – students must select ONE
For each Quotation Analysis, students will be asked to write an analysis that
