Since early 30s, self-driving cars have been just 20 years away. Many of those earlier visions, however, depended on changes to physical infrastructure that never came about, such as special roads embedded with magnets. The future of transport is self-driving cars, said GPS inventor Bradford Parkinson [1]. Bradford Parkinson also says that “I think leads to robotic cars. I think there will come a time when you go down the highway and you don 't have to have your hand on the steering wheel at all. It 'll be a combination of GPS, radar and other sensors."[1]
Summary of Key Findings
1. Zero accidents
Using 360-degree sensors autonomous cars will not crash. Automotive sensors can create a much better perception of the world than our normal field of vision. With these sensors in place, making cars that do not crash comes down to programming.
Car crashes will become thing of the past and will protects us from death and injury. It will also eliminate property damage, reduces traffic problems, and bring down car insurance rates.
2. Transportation for the elderly
With autonomous cars, senior will be more productive than they ever will be. They can get in the car, tell it where they need to go, and the car starts its engine and rolls off. Senior citizens will be more independent than ever before. Like everyone else they can drive off to their favorite destinations without others help. Reliance on friends and family will drastically be reduced.
3. Always have a designated driver
An autonomous will be able to double as a designated driver. Currently, the driver is responsible for the car 's behavior, one could still get a DUI even if the car is driven perfectly. But once trust is built by reliable and safe autonomous cars, it would then make sense, and result in safer roads, if we let cars bring their owners home from bars and parties.
Conclusion
Optimists say that automated cars have already embraced the streets in Nevada, Florida and California. In
