CHAPTER 1
I. Introduction: The Problem and Its Background
What is the situation of the youth now? What are they encountering in their teenage years? Teenagers nowadays engage into a more intimate relationship with special people other than their friends and family. They now use the sentences: “I’m in love,” “I love you,” “You mean the world to me,” and many more to express their feelings to a certain someone whom they call a boyfriend or a girlfriend.
As teenagers drift away from the traditional ways of getting into a relationship like how a kiss meant a proposal for marriage, they now explore the things they can do with themselves and their bodies. According to Andres, Understanding the Filipino (1987) Filipinos are greatly influenced by Western concepts, but in a Sociological Study on The Filipino Youth (1986), 54% is still traditional with their attitude to sex and believes that pre-marital sex would always be wrong while the remaining percentage is more liberal. If that study was conducted 26 years ago, what would the youth’s attitude towards the subject be then today?
Parents are the first parents of children. They teach their children how to walk, talk, use the potty, read and a lot more. As their children grow up, they shouldn’t lose their responsibilities as their child’s parents. Their views and says would always be important no matter what subject or topic it is about. Children will always listen to their parents especially when their parents have installed unto them right values.
II. Statement of The Problem
The study The Perception of Parents on Teenage Relationships as Perceived by Selected Parents of Bedan High School Students A.Y. 2012-2013 aims to answer the question:
1. What are the views of parents on teenage relationships?
III. Significance of The Study
Being a human being, a person must always keep in mind that they are persons-in-community which means what other people think of them and their actions
