06 Feb. 2013 World Famous Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Imagine opening the menu to a five-star restaurant and seeing the Chef’s Special for the day is his “World famous Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich”. After following my simple instructions on how to make the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you would think it belongs in a five-star restaurant. After learning about the history of this simple sandwich, gathering your ingredients, and following the steps I will provide you with later on in this essay, you will realize you’ve been doing an injustice to this sandwich by making it any other way. The first known reference of putting peanut butter and jelly together on bread was in the United States around the early 1900’s. When peanut butter first became popular, it was only found in the finest of tearooms in New York City. Again, set the top down on the counter top and with that free hand grab the knife. Insert the knife into the jelly jar and scoop out a small portion of jelly; because the jelly is not as thick as the peanut butter you must be very careful with this step. Carefully set down the jar of jelly, and pick up the remaining piece of bread that does not have peanut butter on it. Spread the jelly across the bread, just as you did with the peanut butter. Make sure the jelly is evenly distributed across the entire piece of bread. Once finished spreading the jelly with the knife, set down the piece of bread with the jelly facing upwards as well as setting the knife down. Now that both hands are free, you will use both to grab the slice of bread with peanut butter on it. Very gently, match all four corners of the bread and press down with a gentle motion.
