People Are Born Good Or Evil
Studying the human psychology is an unresolved mystery. There is a huge debate on whether people are born good or evil. Psychologists, philosophers and scientists try to reach a crucial point in this issue. However, it is still highly debatable. Especially in the modern times, there are some people claiming that there is some evidence shows that we are born evil. This evidence includes scientific research, psychological studies, and the Christian idea of original sin. On the other hand, there is another opinion that says that people are born good. Their evidence includes theological studies, psychological research, and logical argument. It seems that there is more evidence for the second position over the first position. According to Islam, …show more content…
However, many researchers believe that we are born evil. According to the Christian concept of the original sin, all people are born sinful. The original sin is “an Augustine Christian doctrine that says that everyone is born sinful” (Original sin, 2009). Some Christians think that all mankind is born with a built-in desire to do bad things. They believe that people are born with an internal motivation to disobey God, and they refer this to the disobedience of Adam and Eve’s story to God (2009). The Christian clergy believe that the original sin is not one’s fault. It is the human being’s ordinary psychological condition that even a newborn baby is damaged by (2009). The Christian doctrine also justifies all the errors and faults in the world by having this original sin. It believes that having this evil inside the human soul is considered to be an inherited spiritual disease and imbalance in the human nature, and that is why, it will be regarded as condemnation if people go with this fault. According to the Christianity, people should work hard to purify themselves from this evil until they reach the heaven at the very end (2009). What is more, people who think that we are born evil have also biological evidence. According to a study made by a neuroscientist at McGill University called Daniel Lametti in 2002, it has been shown that people are born evil …show more content…
Scientists and psychologists have different opinions regarding this. Some scientists see that people are born evil while others believe that people are naturally good. The Christianity concept of the original sin states that people are born with a normal psychological condition which is the desire for doing bad things. On the other hand, according to Islam, people are born upon Fitra. There is much research in the scientific and psychology fields that support the both opinions. Nevertheless, it seems that there is more convincing evidence for the opinion that says people are born good. “Society corrupted man; however, people were born good at birth”. (Cameron, 2013). Being good is one’s nature before getting influenced by the outside sources. We are all born good. However, we might develop tendencies for being evil depending on the surrounding circumstances. We come pure in this life; nevertheless, we learn how to be bad. Throughout the life, we learn and acquire evil and violence. We learn all the amoral qualities. We learn greed, selfishness, Gossiping, hatred, lie, and stinginess. It is impossible to be born with these qualities. There is no way to carry such genes in our blood. Human being is pure. However, society and environment contaminates us

I believe that people are born neither inherently good nor evil, but are created as blank slates to be constructed by childhood impressions and other life experiences. In my opinion, the concepts of good and bad are impossible to be natural instinct. Rather, these ideas are mainly formed by the guidance and direction from one’s parents, and also by observation of the environment, and how others handle specific interactions.…

There are numerous beliefs on a man’s perspective. One, they are either born evil or two, they are born “nature good.” The belief that man is born evil is an outrage thought. On the other hand, the belief that man is born good and is dishonored by society though, is not. A philosopher that can agree with this idea is John Locke. “Locke believed that everyone was born with a blank slate and that what you experience determines if you are good or evil.” Now in my beliefs, I think that man is born good, with a clean slate and society is what corrupts man to evil. John Locke is accurate in what he believes in. Knowledge does determine whether if man is good or evil and society does take place as taking the role in corrupting humans. There are many great examples that can set this idea true.…

In conclusion, in the case of nature vs. nurture, nurture is what makes humans do evil things. From boys living alone, trying to survive on an island, to grown men thrown into a psychological experiment, their environment is what causes their sadistic/evil behavior. Although it is true that people make the wrong decisions in life, it does not mean that they were born with a desire to do…

The difference in the way humans perceive things is part of the complexity of mankind. What is thought of as evil to one person can be seen as good to another, and vice versa. The issue of good and evil is brought up in William Golding's Lord of the Flies, when innocent boys are set on an island to bear the weight of society on their backs. What happens to them? How do past influences effect them? Are their actions good or evil? The actions of the boys were not a matter of being good or evil, but were actions for survival. A man's environment does not influence him towards good or evil, nor is he born with it inside. Man has instincts and inner drives that are not matters of good and evil, but of survival.…

In the Bible, the first humans made were Adam and Eve, and God gave them free will. Adam and Eve abused their free will, so sin made its way into the world. Everyone after Adam and Eve has inherited the effects of the Fall, including a loss of free will. At least with the first human beings free will was a condition of real human good, though it also meant the possibility of sin. Leaving the question of Adam and Eve's fall and its consequences for their descendants, this view is basically what is…

Antisocial personality disorder is a mental health condition in which a person has a long-term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others. This behavior is often criminal. Like all personality disorders, antisocial personality disorder is a deeply ingrained and enduring behavior pattern, manifesting as an inflexible response to a broad range of personal and social situations. This behavior represents an extreme or significant deviation from the way in which the average individual in a given culture relates to others. This behavior pattern tends to be stable. It may not cause subjective distress, but does cause problems in social performance. Individuals with antisocial personality disorder often are divorced, have alcohol/drug abuse, anxiety, depression, unemployment, homelessness, and criminal behavior. However, some individuals with this disorder rise to high positions of power in society by becoming masters of manipulation and deceit.…

There are two conflicting views on human nature. Chinese scholar Hsun Tzu believed that man’s nature is evil and when man acts “good” it is only the result of what he called “conscious activity.” In the text, he describes conscious activity as “the part [of man] that can be acquired by learning and brought to completion by effort.” In other words, Hsun Tzu believed that man is naturally selfish, and that unless there are rules and principles put in place to guide men away from his natural inclinations, society would disintegrate into chaos and violence. Mencius, another Chinese scholar and fellow student of Confucius, believed the opposite. He thought that human nature is ultimately good and that people learn to be evil from various influences and experiences in their life.…

The first proof to support the notion that humans are naturally evil is through the tendencies of human beings to commit crimes. According to Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), who is credited with the development of psychoanalytic theory, all humans have criminal tendencies. Furthermore all humans have natural drives and urges repressed in the unconscious. Through the process of socialisation, however, these tendencies are curbed.…

When you are posed with the question if human beings are inherently good or bad, you often find yourself floundered to find an answer. It is a fundamental question with no definite answer, only your conception of situations and human beings. People often look for the bad in the world, they point out the negative things instead of the positive because that’s what people want to hear about. The positive things are overlooked, which concludes with people believing that humans are inherently bad. Unfortunately, they do not recognize the many positive actions of others. Humans, when born, naturally crave love and affection. They are born without greed or desire. Mankind is inherently good, as demonstrated in the novel Night written by Elie Wiesel…

Human nature is not exactly perfect to say the least, so it cannot be exclusively good or evil. A reason for this is because certain situations may bring out the good or bad in people. For example, you may be having a great day, spreading positivity and goodness out to the world and then all of a sudden someone does something such as cutting you off while you are driving. This specific situation may bring out the evil in you and you could possibly chase the driver down,…
