Personal Essay: A Career In Radiology

What is radiology? When people here the word radiology they think x-ray. To me, radiology means more than just taking an x-ray. Radiology is a science dealing with high-energy radiation that is used to treat and diagnose disease. Radiology technologists have more to do than just take an X-ray image of the body. Some tasks a technologist have to be able to perform include; taking their time to protect patients and themselves from radiation exposure, diagnosing a precise image of certain body parts, have good technique and positioning skills, and most importantly have patience and kindness when talking to your patients. I wanted a career that deals with technology, because of the constant advancements. I also love studying the human body and how it provides the functions to live day-to-day. To find a career that put the two aspects together was a perfect fit for me. I then contacted a counselor at Mott Community College to see if there was a path in the direction I wanted to head in , and there certainly was! One of my short term goals include getting higher than a 85% in all of my didactic classes. I am striving to do the best I can within my first year of studies and come out of program with all the useful knowledge I was given. One of the biggest long term goals I have is to specialize in a certain field of radiology after I graduate from the radiology program. I have not yet decided which field that is going to be because,I have not worked in all the areas of radiology and I don’t know what I will enjoy the most. I am going to work hard to learn everything I am taught and to retain as much knowledge as possible to achieve these goals in the near
